Small brass sounds like foil?

I'm sure you long time guys see this all the time but anybody ever notice how small brass (Like for example a percussion cap or friction primer or even a cuff button) tends to sound very low tone (very much like aluminum foil) and shows up in the extreme lower right? Anybody got any methods of determining which is which...other than digging it:)
(XS, IM 13, Condut)

Thanks,
Bc

The lower right is the same place as some bottle caps, if you lift the coil a little you can tell size. But if both targets fall at the same position and size it is very hard to tell the difference under this condition.

Foil signals have a tendency to not sound as clean, they tend to sound scratchy; where a nickel, ring or brass will sound alot more solid, not broken. Also a foil signal usually won't carry as far or deep, so foil signals that are deep are probably not foil.(or they are monster chunks of foil) other than a modern campsite, that's kind of rare. On my SE, All my foil signals that show up just above where the foils discrimination location ends (when rejected) in smart find end up being rings or nickels. Hope that helps some, but remember that's on my SE so if you have an XS the location I just told you probably doesn't apply but the signals quality I mentioned above probably still applies.
