Sluggish ExChange Problem

My ExChange program has slowed right down and even a re-install does not get it to run properly (in Windows 10). Anyone else having this problem and found a fix?

I've seen other threads that mention having problems with xC2 and win10 but haven't paid them much attention. The gist I got is that it IS workable tho annoying to fix.
Personally, I'll go Linux when my win7 computer dies before I load that spyware that is win10.

Can you disable any virus protection you may be running and try it again? I am running it on Windows 10 just fine so it can work...

Bingware, spyware, adware.....
funny though Exchange worked for a while then went to 16 rpms.

I've been using Xchange2 for the CTX3030 with Windows 10 since I installed it some months ago.Never been sluggish and always reliable.

I suggest you try either or both of the following to help sort out any problems:

sfc /scannow
https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/search?query=sfc%20scannow%20in%20Windows%2010

and/or

Maybe start your PC in Safe Mode with Networking and run Xchange2.( I just tried it and it works in safe mode with networking).

Hope it helps sort the problems out for you.

I would also recommend making a manual backup of your Xchange2 data by copying the following files to another drive/USB or OneDrive also make sure Xchange is not running when you copy the files/folders. I know this wont solve your imediate slowness problem but it will ensure you have backed data in the event you need to un-install/re-install

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\XChange2\mldata
mldata is the main database for Xchange2

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\XChange2\Attachments\
The Attachments folder contains any/all attached photo you may have added to any GeoHunts

This way if you run into any issues you can restore your Xchange2 data

as there is no native backup in Xchange i would also consider making a bat file to auto backup your Xchange data I do this on mine and have it backed up to the OneDrive cloud for safe keeping

Example backup
Step 1 create a auto-backup.bat file in a location that you want to store you backup
Example: D:\Minelab-backup

Step 2 create an attachments folder — this is where any saved images will be stored
Example: D:\Minelab-backup\Attachments

Step 3
Using notepad create your backup file and note replace <username> with your own windows username
xchange-autobackup.bat

C:
cd C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\XChange2\
start XChange2.exe -d'.\' -n'mldata' -r
Copy C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\XChange2\mldat a /Y
Rd D:\Minelab-backup\Attachments/S /Q
Md D:\Minelab-backup\Attachments
XCopy C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\XChange2\Attac hments\*.* D:\Minelab-backup\Attachments /Y /S
Exit

Step 4 save the notepad file as xchange-auto.bat in your D:\Minelab-backup directory

Step 5 copy the original desktop xchange 2 shortcut file to D:\Minelab-backup
As a backup in case anything goes wrong you can recover the original desktop shortcut

Step 6
On the desktop right click your mouse on the xchange 2 short cut and select properties
Select the Shortcut Tab at the top of the properties window
And replace the target field with D:\Minelab-backup\xchange-autobackup.bat

Replace the Start-in field with
D:\Minelab-backup

Then click apply and close

Now your desktop icon for starting Xchange 2 will launch Xchange 2 and upon exit will backup your data. If this does not work then simply copy the backup shortcut from step 5 to restore the original shortcut and start over.

If you for any reason need to restore your backup re-install XChange 2 and then copy the mldata file into the location and overwrite the old one and the contents of the Attachments folder then XChange 2 now your backed up data is restored.

I use Windows 10 it's safe, no Spyware was nuked by Microsoft with a patch plus you could disable it. Its a good operating system and way better than 7 and 8.1. Linux is good but lacks too much support to be my main os I do use it on my laptop though.

Thanks for the replies you have given me a lot to digest and work on. Thought maybe a program was corrupt affecting the re-install--to back them up on Google drive is a good idea. Had wanted to create an online library of programs for Gold, Inland and UK "Pasture" programs but the proprietary software is so slow I cant' even work with the files on it.
Kind Regards,

Read the terms of usage you agreed to with Win10. MS toned down the worst of it after the outrage heaped on them, but they still claim the right to use your usage data any way they see fit (after sanitizing it, or so they say- we all trust them implicitly 'eh?). And that's the best case scenario where MS keeps your data perfectly safe from outsiders.
Not MS bashing here- I use Win7 afterall. I just protect myself as much as possible as its only going to get worse in the future.
