I've been knocking on doors all week and getting into a few yards. I know I'm in a good area because I keep finding Wheaties (have found 22 including the 9 I found today), but the silver has been hard to come by. Finally got one today and it was a good one for me. I started in the front yard of this roughly 1920s home. Found 6 Wheaties and some clad pretty quickly. Then I moved into the back yard. It was so junky I had to switch to TTF. I picked up another Wheatie and then got a solid 12-43 signal at about 3 inches. Pretty shallow for old coins, I thought. Sure enough, after I popped the plug I ran my Propointer across it and dug out what I'd describe as a small copper O-ring. I ran my X-1 across it and it sounded just like the signal I'd heard. But, just to be sure I ran my X-1 back into the hole and I got the strong 12-43 signal again. I loosened up another handful of dirt and plopped it on my towel. The X-1 said it was on the towel. I found it with the Propointer and at first thought it was a penny because it was pretty dark colored. I picked it up and thought, "it's too small for a penny." Poured a little water on it from my drinking bottle and I could see 1911 and One Dime. My first Barber!
I finished up the backyard and then worked a little side yard where there was two more Wheaties. I also found a small toy car that was made by the TootsieToy company. It's the Roadster model and a quick Internet search says it's probably from the 20s or 30s. Still has all four tires on it, but they're frozen solid. There's also a severely corroded token in my electrolysis bowl right now. I don't know if I'll be able to save it, but if I can I'll add a few pics of it later on.
