Slow sweep speed

Like Tony who had the question on sweep speed, I also just ordered a new Explorer XS. The answer to his question was slow for all but low trash areas.
Since I am also relatively new to metal detecting and at the risk of sounding slow! Can you please define "slow" relative to time/distance.
Thanks,
Tom

I guess 1 sweep per second would be fast and one sweep per 2 seconds would be slow... but you would have to find your own comfortable sweep rate. Try this... set 5 pennies on the ground away from other signals... set them about 1 foot apart in a slight arc - that you would make sweeping - set the detector's sensitivity low to about 6, then sweep the detector over them all in a line. You will quickly find out what speed you have to sweep to hear clear seperate signals from each. Now try putting a pulltab inbetween each penny and resweep. You'll have to sweep a little slower to hear the seperate signals... this is a good excercise to figure out proper sweep speed in the field. Hope this helps and HH, Mike.

Mike,
You sure have great information for people, you must be a teacher. Thanks.

Thanks! I really appreciate your great advice to not just mine but all of the forum questions.
