After reading several post about going really slow I finally did. It seemed to help. Same park, conditions etc. I did find lots more coins also slightly older clads, and pennies from 50's no silver though. This is a turn of century park so the old stuff shoud be there. I have found a 1899 barber dime there. Previously I thought park had been hunted really hard as I was only finding modern clad. Noticed on several targets very wk. signals but dug anyway ex 59 memorial @ 6inches where is the 10IN & strong signal I hear about this is the norm rather than exception. Can anyone explain I hunt 24-28 man, 8 gain, audio1 and have tried both recoverys. I have noticed same thing in my garden, wk. signals @ over 6IN. Any suggestions and should I presume deep silver to still be there. Also iron mask or smart for coin hunting. Sorry so long& any help appreciated.

Are you using a pattern? is the explorer nulling most of the time or do you maintain a threshold? could be bad ground or it could be a very iron trashed site.. try using iron mask -8 or -9.. lower that gain to 6 to get less falsing in iron mask. you using stock coil? might need to use one of the 8 inchers or Joey if lots of iron there

Jim, What I'm trying to understand is why there is an advantage to using a smaller coil in iron. Since the Explorer will ring out even when in a null coil size shouldn't make a difference. In a non-ferrous trashy area less coil may help as sounds might tend to blend a bit more but as for iron I see no point. I don't doubt your experience I'm just trying to figure out why its better and whether it merits shelling out the cash for the x-8. A couple of my older sites where there is fairly heavy iron I can't get a even a peep anymore with the 10.5. Do you honestly think the 5 or 8 would bring create a few sounds. Thanks Jim and if anyone else has an opinion please feel free to share.

Hi CC,
I think it all depends on the site. I've been on sites where I'd have to take my 8 off and put the 5 on and still go slow but was able to separate the trash from the good stuff. Then i've hit sites where i've taken the 8 off and put the 10 or even the Wot on. The only reason i change the coils is for better separation and to reduce the multi. tones of ferrous objects. Just my opinion.

In extreme iron, the smaller coils can get better seperation and will hit better on coins close to iron.. first week with the X8 I got 2 seated dimes from a very iron ridden area of the park I hit pretty good with the 10 and every other machine as well.. only seated I ever got from this park.. would the 10 have seen them if I knew they were there? possibly with a little working of the coil.. the 8 hit em real nice.. And I have found stuff in high iron with the 5 the 10 missed as well
