Slimline or older explorer 1000 coil for EXII ?

New to posting, but I have two coils for my explorer II. An older 1000 and a newer Slim line 10 inch. I would think the newer slim line would be the way to go but after reading some of the post, people like the older coil. What is the difference and would I notice any depth diff. for old coins? Pro's and cons.. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The slimline feels lighter to swing and i found works just that bit better on sites with trash (compared to the 10.5) due to it's slightly smaller size. I like the slim line it's a good coil in dry conditions but to be honest i had big problems on my se getting the slim line to work right on wet grass was close to impossible, i kept getting falsing.
Got 2 more slim lines from minelab but the problem was still there so i sold the se along with the slimline.
To sum it up = slim line coil very good in the dry and sensitive, not a bad coil in the trashier sites either .
Negatives = Can have problems on wet grass.
At the current time i am looking for a slim line to go with my explorer 2 , i will use it only in dry conditions. I am sure the slim line will probably find a few good smaller targets that the 10.5 missed especially on some sites with a fair bit of foil , tabs , and iron bits etc....
I think i sold my se out of frustration with the wet grass problem and of course regret selling it now.

The slimline coil is very susceptible to instability. I had one of the later slimlines, the one that's not supposed to have any problems, but it was still problematic. When my buddy bought his SE, his slimline was the same as mine. When I was a newbie just starting out, I really didn't know anything was wrong with the coil, until after using it for a few months, and then buying some other aftermarket coils, including an Explorer 1050 coil. I was finding silver with the slimline, no doubt, but when I decided to try an older 1050 coil (a friend suggested I do), the increase in performance was very recognizable. More stability in all ground conditions, and it hit harder on deeper (7"+) targets. I remember comparing some really deep signals with my buddy who was still using the slimline. Suffice to say he had a 1050 coil within a week after that hunt. I wish ML would have just admitted they had a problem with this coil, and to ask to have them all recalled. That would have been a moral decision for the company.

Truthfully, between those two coils you mentioned, I'd use the 1000 coil. Better yet, get a new Pro Coil, and you'll never have to worry about asking questions like this again.

its mistake to think that slim line coil is lighter then old 1000 or 1050. its just visually lighter, take off coil cover from 1000 and you will get the same weight. slim coil made with old 1000 coil guts, but filed with resin. outer size very very close difference in half or less inch. 1000 and 1050 coil construction is 3 or 4 rubber supporters between coil and outer ABS case. slim line is very often has problems, bad quality. pro coil I think has some advantages, but i don't have any experience to say more detail. good luck

Glad I asked. I have an older Explorer II with the 1000 coil and a newer Explorer II w/ slim line. I am just getting back into MD after a couple of years off.I have vowed to learn one system and stick with it. I must admit that I used whites for the last 25 years but switched to an Explorer in 2004 Shortly after I found my first and only silver dollar. A 1923. I will be honest and tell you that 8 inches of soil had been removed and it was only 2 inches deep, so I think a good dowser with an apple branch could have found it !

I noticed the slim line bounces around a lot and seems hard to lock on except for the strongest of signals. I guess I will put the 1000 on the newer Eplorer II with the Sunray probe and give it a try.How did I ever get a long without a probe? Thanks for all the help. I will let you know what happens.

I have a Minelab Explorer 1000 coil. Can that be used on E-Trac. Does anyone know.

Absolutely! Have fun with it!

In my 20 years with the Explorer I have found that the stock coil is equal to or better than aftre market coils. It is heaver and thats the biggest take away.
