Slim pickins

New member
I haven't found much in the last month or so, but I did find a few keepers.

I was surprised by a super crisp five cent piece in front of some 40's\50's houses. Maybe there was an older residence their previously.

The black Tungsten ring was a fun find.

Nice finds:clapping:

Those slim pickins are way better than what I've done lately, lol. You know, I had never heard of a chauffeurs badge before I started reading this forum. I don't know how popular they were in my little part of Texas, but I'd sure like to find one! That five cent piece is cool too.. I think you did pretty good!

Those fish scales are indeed getting scarce. great scoff and good luck on your next outing!

Yes Leslie they are, and thanks. I have never missed a year since I started, were I didn't get some fish. But luck is also a factor for me and a couple of years it was a squeaker. Three years ago I think that I only got one for the season. Then I found a field were events were held around 1910-20. I pulled multiples out of there for a few years. Last year there was wheat stubble in that field and this year will be Canola stubble. I might not be able to swing it again this year. I am grateful and delighted when one of these little boogers come out of hiding.

Slim pick'ns however good ones. A Fishscale and a Cheauffers Badge are fantastic finds!

Thanks. I got a B.C. Chauffers' badge from the early 40's a couple of years ago. It was stamped into thin brass as a hat\cap band and it was slightly bent. I decided in my infinite wisdom to bend it back to decent shape. Of course I cracked it.

Funny how this hobby goes. Some seasons are better than others. Luckily I've bumped into a few decent finds, but my overall numbers are way down. A couple of years ago the local creek was drained because the locks needed repair. The water level was at an historic low and I scored some really cool bits from the exposed creek bank. I'm not the sharpest tack in the box but I am learning to seize upon a site opportunity these days. I am much better at recognizing a rare opportunity now, such as the creek draining. Apparently it has only happened about twice in 100 years. There are always new things for me to learn, or understand more concisely.

Nice finds. I agree with dgruff, I've learned a lot since I started reading these forums. I've learned so much I didn't know or wasn't even aware of and I realize how much I've yet to experience in this hobby. I've missed some great opportunities like you mention about the creek being drained and other things. A combination of circumstances beyond my control, timing and just being human.
