I thought when I dug this, it was a piece of spanish silver but was not sure, so I posted it in the what is it forum (on t-net) and several members agree that is what it is, so it is a cool piece of history. Found it in a farm field where a one room school house used to be, hunted for 2.5 hours today, froze my butt off and no coins, tokens or buttons were found. Glad I found this! Odd to think how people used to cut coins to make change!...if this piece could only talk
Nice find! It is not only amazing that you found it. But it is great you "suspected" the ID it when you dug it. You can attribute part of that to youthful eyesight! Me and my aging eyes? I'd probably tossed it in the bag and not thought twice about it being a piece of silver coin. Then, after a few hunts, dumped the bag into my "collection bucket" and never looked back.
