Skimming The Surface!

Just skimming the surface is what we did this evening with coins literally on top of the ground! Doug and I went out for a couple of hours last night to hit a site I found last month that is under construction. That meant easy digging and in some cases no digging at all. We started out with a few wheats and a Canadian George penny. Doug got the first silver a Rosey and about 15 minutes later I got a 1924 Merc. Just before we had to go Doug came across another Rosey in the surface dirt and to top it off on our way back to the car he got another one in the same manner. So he ended up with 3 Roseys and wheats and I got the Merc and 11 wheats oldest being 1911 and a couple of nice marbles.

Congrats on a nice hunt ! Can't beat the easy digging, or not digging.

The coins on the surface should not count as you should at least have to dig for them. That's just cheating.:look: You know I'm just kidding. Congrats on the nice coins and marbles.

OK Cheater!!! I love finding them that way.. I was also kidding nice job

Congratulations Tony on the Merc and wheats, and Doug on the Rosie and wheats

With finding coins literally on the surface, I would seriously think about using a sifter....nge

There is nothing wrong with skimming especially when you find keeper's!

I once found a Merc on the ground near a trash can in a old park, I am sure it was dropped by another MDer earlier

I picked it up and considered it a find

Congrats and Regards

Very nice !

They were all on the top? Wow! Gotta be more there!

Two of Doug's Roseys could be seen sticking an edge out, others at most were a couple inches down. Have gone back had more success planning on a Saturday hunt again and will post after that one.
