six weeks of summer.....

As many of you know, I don't do much detecting in the summer months, compared to Spring and Fall. I prefer to hunt old farmsites and long-ago "recreational" areas that will have crops in them for another 30 days or so. That, and I don't want to leave "brown bullseyes" in peoples yards when it is so dry. So until the crops are harvested and the lawns go dormant, any coin shooting I do is in vacant lots or the local park and athletic field. For the past 6 weeks I've been getting to know my Etrac by playing with all the adjustments and pitting it against my X-705. For the most part, I've been hitting the local park, which has been beat to death for the past 35 years! Although I've not found anything with the Etrac that the 705 didn't confirm, (or vice-versa), it has added another dimension to my summer hunting. And, I've pulled out some stuff that really surprised me. Anyway, here are a few pics of my finds from the past 6 weeks, minus several dozen pull tabs, a few additional nails and about 30 aluminum Pepsi screw on caps. Several piles of clad quarters, dimes and memorials. With some of the better finds (silver, gold rings, IH and some nicer wheats) on the towel. HH Randy

Wow, some really nice finds there! I just picked up a X705, haven't got it yet. My main machine is an Explorer XS and have made my best finds with this machine. It's great to hear that the 705 will keep up with the higher end Minelabs. If I had half your luck I'd be a happy camper!

Looks like you dug a few holes there Randy.
Nice bunch of coins you have for only short hunting trips to the park..Just think how many others have been over those spots and left those fine coins!
Keep us posted on your thoughts on the 705,
Felix

That's a load of stuff. Well, here in New Mexico I'm just gearing up for the fall season. It was just to darn hot this summer, glad it's almost over.

That's pretty darn good for areas that you have hit hard in the past years. What kind of depth were you finding some of the older coins?

Very nice Randy....the old 3kHz strikes again (you didn't say but I bet it was). Not been a good summer for me. Old knee started giving me a fit in June. Then on July 15 I had a pacemaker implanted. And on Aug the 18th I had surgery on my left knee. To say I haven't been out much this summer is a understatement. The one thing that has keep me sane is the post from you and the other members and pic of your finds. Lord willing I hope to get out in the near future. TomB

Thanks. Hard to believe this much stuff has been passed over so many times. Those 3-inch sterling wings really surprised me. Here is a closer look at the silver and some old tokens. 25 cents, 2 1/2 cents, good for, etc.....HH Randy

This park is an odd-ball. It was first organized in 1866 as the County Fair Grounds. They held Chautauquas here for the better part of 30 years. Unfortunately, about 35 years ago, they built a new swimming pool on the exact spot where the Chautauqua building was. They then spread all that dirt over the entire park. So if you happen to come across a spot that got some dirt with an old coin in the load, it will be shallow. I've dug IH cents at 2 - 3 inches in some spots. But within a few steps, I'll dig a clad quarter or dime at 8 inches. That is the reason there is so much clad on the table. I have hunted places where I wouldn't dig anything less than a few inches deep. But in this park, you never know how deep anything will be. So you dig everything you think might be a keeper. Those sterling wings were only a few inches deep, as well as one of the silver pocket watches. Unbelievable that they were still there. But on the other hand, I'd bet many folks passed them up thinking they were mashed soda cans! I've passed up dozens of signals that I figured were memorial pennies. Probably better go back and rethink that idea! HH Randy

I do like the 705. Having the sizing pinpoint allows me to still view the TID while pinpointing. Makes separating those goodies from the trash much easier. HH Randy

WOW! Randy you have had a great summer! I really like seeing the silver! Those wings are just to wild. Hard to believe they were only 3" down! Great work, Beale.
