Single frequency vs double

Captain Kelly

New member
Hello Fellow Hunters,

I asked someone about my GTI 2500 and they said it was single frequency what does that mean and what are the drawbacks of this??
Thank you,
Captain Kelly

SIngle frequency means it is just that. One frequency. I am not sure of Garrett's frequency, but my guess it is in the 7 kHz range or therabouts. (Help me out here Willie!) This is a good average frequency setting for high conductivity targets ( silver and copper), and low conductivity targets (gold and small jewelry).

Duel frequency detectors operate in modes where you can switch between lower frequencies which respond better to copper and silver, and higher frequencies which respond better to gold. The White's DFX for example can operate in 3kHz for copper and silver, or 15kHz for gold. It can also operate in "mixed mode" which can operate in both frequencies at the same time. It gives two options in mixed mode. Best data will choose the more accurate of the two frequencies and display the result as a VDI number. Correlate will look at the two frequencies and if the results are not close, it will reject the target as junk.

I have never had a problem with a one frequency machine. As I have said before, I dont dig more coins with the DFX than I do with the ACE, I just dig less trash.

Great link. Printed and added to my archives.

Yeah the Garretts all operate in the 7 range except the Scorpion which operates at 15. 7 is a good all around frequency for general hunting.
