Single frequency ground balance

sube

Well-known member
When set in single frequency will it ground balance as same as a vlf or different . Can we change recovery speed in single frequency and multi-frequency for better depth and ID . sube

good questions!

I believe with near 100% certainty that you CAN change recovery speed, at LEAST in single-frequency mode. Not sure about multi, but I think so.

Don't know about how you ground balance in single frequency. Haven't seen those details yet...

Most adjustments you make on any detector, you should ground balance afterwards.

Minelab multifreqs should almost never be ground balanced unless you hunt in the 1% or ground that is too hot to detect otherwise

If you're changing coils on a single freq especially, but not an FBS,manual GB would kill the tracking ability in almost all ground conditions. Really really terrible ground then yes, apparently manual GB is a last resort...with FBS.

I saw a video, can't find the link right now, where the operator was adjusting the recovery speed. I think it was in multi.

Adjustable recovery speed is one of the most critical important adjustments on modern "fast" detectors. On my V3i, for example, going from a fast to slow recovery speed vastly changes the performance of the detector. So I would have to believe that the Equinox includes this adjustment, especially with it being touted as capable of really fast speeds. They wouldn't want to have a super-fast detector that was "stuck" in fast, otherwise it would be pretty lousy for deep targets in low trash environments, and visa versa.

Good question about ground balancing in single frequency mode. The way I understand Multi-IQ (and FBS and BBS for that matter) ground balances is using different frequencies and processing them with some sort of algorithm to remove the ground signal. With only one frequency, this would be impossible of course. Perhaps single frequency mode still emits just enough of the other frequencies to perform an effective ground balance?
