In all honesty my greatest finds have been fine people like you and many others on this forum.
I will at this time say thank you one and all for the very patient advice and all the PM'S you have taken time sending helping me learn.
Merry Christmas to all..and a Happy New Year !!.........I have found some great Silver coins and relics also..... Your all a bunch of good people.

Elton and all members of forum,
You couldn't have put it better mate the forum
and all associated has been my best find of the year. I never walk out of the bush or off the beach
now with any doubt of my operating. Thanks all for fast tracking me.
Ron I will try and photograph some finds with my son's help during the holidays.
But a quick story, last week I detected in mineralised trashy ground.
Day 1. I found a poor conditioned chinese coin.
Day 2. I searched an old blacksmith shop site and found two great items that relate to our Aus gold era.
Firstly a 1/2 penny English 1877 with a crude square cut out for a washer.
Secondly a thick flat washer with a rim, crudely flattened but still twice the thickness of a normal
copper coin. I took several days to identify it and was taken back . It was identical to the weights
used in the 1800's for the gold scales. The great part about this find there was 5 trash signals
predominant (-8 / -6 ) and a 24 flashed on the screen for a split second. Too much trash noise
to pick up any audio on it. I dug 4" behind the signal and slowly came forward. The target came
accompanied by 4 pieces of small rusty metal all within 6". The two hours I spent in this paddock
in all metal averaged 10 trash signals ID and Audio per sweep.
How good is the Terra 70!!!!
My wife and I have bought the lease of a hotel and won't do much detecting for a few years so I thought
this post might be of interest.
Have a safe and happy Christmas with no cabin fever ( that must be contagious in USA )
happy hunting

Hi Guys,

This would have to be my best find for o7 as i was lucky enough to find it but also found the owner of it in another state of Australia. The gold bracelet 9ct. and weighed 11.1 grams. The owners who come from Adelaide which is 1325.11 miles from where i live. It give a digital readout of 10 and as it was a medi alert bracelet it had a number on it so the owners could be traced.

Well I have only been at this great hobby since August. I actually have 4 finds that stand out.

My first good find for me was and still is a bus token. I found it in my wifes grandmothers yard. The fact that she might have used it, or lost it is cool to me.

My second good find is a military pin. It is not super old, but I really like it. It is very unique and just neat.

The third good find and a big thrill was my 1st silver coin. It is a 1940 Mercury Dime. Heck just thinking about it is sweet.

My last good find was just 2 weeks ago. I found a very nice 925 silver necklace. It is in perfect condition. My first good jewelry, Beale.

Yeah, that first silver is sweet! How about a close-up of the military pin? Thanks for posting, Ron

My best find for the year was two days ago in an abandoned gold mine entrance near the City of Portland, NSW, Australia. Of the two signals I dug at the mine shaft entrance, the smaller signal turned out to be a Gold Sovereign dated 1884. Has a young Queen Victoria on one side. After putting it through the ultrasonic cleaner and giving it a very slight polish with a jewellers cloth, the results were terrific. Can see it in the picture here with some of the small nuggets found with the same X-Terra 70 the day before. Was not as pretty when first removed from the clay. Not going back there without a GPS & a 4 Wheel Drive though - too risky & too remote. The climb out of the ravine took me three hours with 10 kilos of rocks and equipment in my pack. Ripped my jeans and lost my "lucky" soil-spoon too!

nero design,
Great finds mate, something to be proud of.
I bet you got a buzz when it was exposed.
I have been posting lately discussing cleaning coins by electrolysis.
I have looked at the ultrasonic cleaners but could not find any marketing
that stated they would cean poor conditioned coins.
I know that gold coins do not deteriate in soil as copper, bronze etc.
What success have you had with this cleaner and what brand is it.
happy hunting

Hi Gold Rat!
Just sent you a PM with details on my ultrasonic machine so as not to hog this thread.

Was such a lonely place where I found the Sovereign that I was more than surprised to get a "time reference" when I saw the date.
It looked a lot less attractive when I found it as the iron oxide from the soil was all over it. A VERY short dip in acid gave it back it's old color.
Surprisingly the ultrasonic cleaner made a big difference as well although that wouldn't necessarily work on non-gold coins. I've also used it on Gold Doubloons to
remove unwanted particles without damaging or abrading the surface.

Would love to see more pics from other Detectorists in this thread... I envy a lot of you North Americans with such amazing history on your shores and in your yards.
