So this is what I found on our recent trip to Jamaica. I actually metal detected only 4 hours and waist to neck deep. We stayed in the Montego Bay area which doesn't have much of really nice beaches. There were two places downtown that were "privately" owned, one called Doctors Cave, which is where I detected. The property manager WAS NOT letting me metal detect. Well after begging and even trying to bribe....still not allowing it. SOOOOO after sitting on the beach with metal detector sitting in the bag next to me, I pulled it and the scoop out, ran into the water with them and went at it, trying to stay as low as possible and out of sight. There was a lot of targets and would have paid for the trip had I been able to REALLY detect that area. I dug around $1000 dollars in change.....Don't get all excited, that's Jamaican money, which is around 10 or 12 US dollars. They have $20 dollar coins that sounded a lot like gold, very solid sounding targets. So if anyone goes to MoBay for any reason, take a detector, refuse to leave it at the main entrance where you enter the beach (because those idiots thought I would leave the metal detector up there with them while we went on the beach.....That wasn't happening). Then sneak out and start detecting.

That is interesting ! Will be going there in March for a week staying near Runaway bay area.
Will contact you on more info about those location via P.email.
I'm taking the Detector Pro PI and a big travel scoop for the sand and salt water !
Nice rings and one of them looks old style so the area may not have seem to much detecting:thumbup:

nice rings there..

Nice rings. I can understand the owner not letting you hunt the beach, but isn't the water public? You did good. HH

You were lucky, on our cruise there we had 3 folks loose thier rings in the water...but it was by the thugs that tie the bracelets on your wrist, they would slip your rings right off your fingers, on the 3rd lady she caught him and even called for the police, but when they showed up they would not do anything about it. Jamaica is the isle of crooks I will not vacation there again. I did not take my detector there because I heard before hand about a guy who did and they mugged him on the beach and took his detector I figured it was an isolated incident but wasn't going to take a chance. After visiting there I can see easily how that can happen

Jamaica is a crap-hole. The private resorts are nice, but that is bacuase they are gated and guarded. Locals arent even allowed onto thier beaches. Leave there and you are in a third-world country where you are a piece of meat waiting to get devoured.

After visiting once, we swore never to go back to that island.

As for the OP... dont forget, you are in a foriegn country. Getting arrested wouldnt be much fun, even less in thier corrupted system.
