Simplicity Factor = Fun

I quit metal detecting back in the late 90's. Fast forward to January 2016. Came back to the metal detecting hobby. Started off using a borrowed Fisher CZ7. Decided to purchase a White's V3i. A great machine but was not satisfied with it. Heavy machine & response seemed to lag to me. Bought Tesoro Vaquero to use for competition hunting. Tesoro was traded off for an AT Pro. Tesoro Cibola purchased to replace Vaquero as competition machine. Auto ground balance on Cibola eliminated one step for competition hunting. XP Deus had been purchased earlier to replace the V3i. XP Deus was a great machine...no lag time, very fast response time...

End of 2016 coming up. Sold XP Deus for needed funds plus took in Tejon as trade in sales deal. Sold AT Pro. Down to 2 machines now--Cibola & Tejon. Was considering raising funds to purchase another XP Pro. Got the opportunity to purchase a Racer 2 pro pack with 3 coils + R2 wireless headphones. Ended up trading Tejon in on the deal.

Issues with V3i & XP Deus through the year. Reread manuals & books on these machines. Study internet for any tips on using these detectors.

My background--Techology Application Teacher. Always thought I needed the newest & best computer. Constantly upgrading & rebuilding my computer. This idea followed me into metal detecting hobby. V3i & XP Deus were examples of this thinking. Constantly reading & studying...

Retired from public teaching in May 2016.

Simplicity factor--Makro Racer 2. This has become my main detecting machine. I cannot say that it is the best machine on the market. But it is fun to use. No thick manual to study night after night. Simple to use right out of the box. If you have experience using metal detectors, then this machine will be easy to operate. Still complex enough that you will put time into it to figure out the best operating settings. Sorry for lengthy post. Enjoying my Racer 2 & looking forward to 2017 detecting season...

Happy Hunting to all...

You said it,,,a no nonsense detector.

Nice readout on screen,,,easy to navigate,,,easy to GB,,,,and that small coil,,,,is dynamite in and around old houses, etc.

After a hunt with Sataro I was convinced to buy a Racer 2.What little time I have had to use it I am pleased and find it very simple to operate.Makro seems to be above other brands in the ability to see through trash in junky sites.Decided to make the Racer 2 my go to machine. I am an old Whites man and have used the Eagle 2, XLT,and currently own the V3i. Guess I will put the V up for sale.

Yep have to agree with you. No wondering if you have it set up correctly or not, it just works, and works very well.

Learn it and it's enhancement settings and it works that much better.
