Seems like all the way back to the first GTA's up to present GTI's sometimes the unit acts up and needs a reboot..Basically hold down the start button to bring back to factory resets..Worked for a friend of mine with a GTI and also this summer at a planted hunt I helped a woman out with an older GTA Ultra. Boy did her husband catch grief as he was letting her use it as is..Simple tip and rebooting your unit just might do the trick if need be.

Thanks for this reminder, Dan. I 've heard of others having this happen and I've had to do it to my new 1350, <15 hours on it. Does anybody know why this happens and what maybe can be done to stop it? Most of all, is it a pre-cursor of worse to come?
What does Garrett have to say about all this? !

There may be a problem with the battery clips intermittently losing contact with the detector. Fortunately, my CX Plus doesn't have this problem, but it used to irritate me when I had a GTI 1500. Maybe trying different battery clips would help.

>>> The machine doesnt lose power, Dan, unless it's momentary. The detector acts like it loses it's brain altogether. All sorts of spurious display segments and all the settings are no longer in effect. You can bring them all back manually but a re-boot is quicker - and the display never is right until you do. I can't rule out a power loss, of course, but that usually means a jump back to factory default settings. Thats not what seems to be happening. It seems to just switch over to this "mystery mode" for some reason.
I work with microporcessor controlled equipment a lot and I'd suggest a momentary memory "glitch" of some kind as the culprit.

Then it could be a defective solder joint or trace on the circuit board. Fleeting, momentary loss of battery contact on just one of the battery terminals has been a problem. With the CX Plus, a simpler but capable detector, I've had no problems.

If it happens all the time time to call factory..I am talkiing about something that happens infrequently. Indeed with all the solder joints and components time for factory Tech's to test if its a constant problem..

Hey David. This happened with my 2500 a couple of times. I think it has something to do with the coil wire connection where it go's into the control box. Make sure it's tight and there is no dirt or moisture in the connector. Some of solder connections may not be all that great also so check for a loose wire in the connector at the end of the coil wire. Tim

Thanks for your comments you guys I appreciate it. I dint get new detectors all that often, as some seem to, so when theres a problem, I get a little nervy.
