When detecting with the Explorer and the X Probe, after you pinpoint your target and bend down to probe the hole, place the Explorer crossways to your body between you and the hole instead of parallel to you and the hole. You will find this position makes access to the probe SOO muck easier and I seem to remember to flip the *&(&^%&*$ switch back to coil more often this way.
