Simple question?

I'm a little embarrassed to ask this but here it goes.
I have an E-Trac on order and have not previously owned an Explorer......I'm coming from a X-Terra 70.
I've been reading the manual on line and watching some videos but I have not come across anything on ground balancing the ET.
Can it be manually GB or is it all automatic.?

Dave

I'ts all auto. It's a nice feature. Since your comming from a ML product you should do well.

Thanks.....it's funny but I don't recall reading anything at all about GB and the E-Trac. So is the GB on the E-Trac a tracking GB, and if so will it cancel out a target if I sweep over it multiple times?

Thanks,
Dave

It's called auto tracking. I'm not sure if i'm following you on canceling out a target. The tracking just adjust to the ground conditions. Discrimination is what cancels targets. Noise cancel is the form of ground balance. Hold the coil still about 6in or so above the ground when doing so.

Thanks for the response. With my X-70 if in auto tracking GB it would start to cancel out a target if I swept over it to many times......tracking would have to be turned off if I wanted to check and re-check the target because the detector would start to adjust the GB thinking the target was part of the ground mineralization. If the E-Trac is always auto tracking the GB, can this same thing happen? Just curious.

Thanks,
Dave

The BBS (Sovereigns) and the FBS (Explorers, E-Tracs, Quattros, and the Safaris) dont use a ground balance like other detectors use as these compare the signal of a target to the ground to give you a accurate ID and max depth, this is built into the Software. Now the new Sovereign GT in all metal only you can ground balance and lock that setting , but this is only in all metal while in disc it uses the BBS. Now I know what you mean by tracking out a target with auto tracking on some detectors like my wifes MXT, if you go over the weaker target trying to get a good ID you will track it out if you are in track. What i do in these cases if I am going to check out a target better that is weak is ground balance and lock it then go over the weaker signal. I have never notice this with the Explorers, E Trac or the Sovereigns as it seem like in most cases the signal will even get better for me

Thanks for that. With the X-70 I usually manually set the GB then locked it in for the reasons I mentioned. It's nice to know that with the E-Trac setting the GB is no longer a concern. 3 more days and it will be here:)

i got the etrac about 6 months ago and before that i also had the x terra 70 so i know exactly what you mean about the cancelling out.It has not been a problem at all it doesnt do the same thing that the 70 did, just noise cancel and away you go.good luck
