simple coin cleaning question.

Has anyone cleaned our us dollar coins and can they be cleaned without a tumbler ?
I have just 6 right now...

what are they made of Jim? from what i have seen they are gold like ours? if you don't have a tumbler and just want to spend them try some vinegar in a plastic bottle and shake them for 15mins or so, that should do the trick.

They are gold colored...and run dark brown..no clue what the material is....really.

They are a composition of copper and nickel, about like what our clad quarters are. I throw them in a tumbler with quarters and thus clean them the same way. They will remain dark, like the quarters do, but are clean enough for spending. HH jim nt

They clean up very well with the cleaning methods I outline and use, and after the various steps and then a 30 minute tumble with all the copper and zinc cents, they come out clean, not dark.
