Silver VDI

Just got back from the park and found a silver men's bracket. Odd thing it came up at 55 on the vdi. Is this normal? it says 925 Italy on it. Two days ago I found a silver ring at the same park but that came in at 90 which I expected.

i found a silver coco chanel heart shaped pendant the size of a quater and it vdi'd as 55. go figure.

Its possible its marked wrong. Sterling has an even higher silver content than coin silver. Even small pieces of high content silver should vdi high. Another possibilty might be that there was another target next to it causing it to null or mask. Did you air test the bracelet afterwards to see if it still showed 55VDI?

Other possibilities target on edge ,target halo, mineralization of soil, item metal composition,depth...

Being it was a bracelet and the silver is more distributed than say a coin, pendant, ring (which is in a circle) it will read lower on the VDI. Just as a necklace or a broken silver chain, etc. HH and Congrats, Nancy

Great answer Nancy! I have a broken silver ring that reads 20 - 25 counts lower when not completely pushed together.

Thank you Mike5853. :) HH, Nancy
