Silver V Golden :argue:

depends on what you want
i love hunting with my golden i love my tones :super:
but if tones are not an issue and you don't care about notching
then the silver is a great choice
i have both :twodetecting:
but if i could have only 1 it would be the golden

tones not really an issue for me.

am interested in how the notch system works can i get it so finely tuned to notch out pulltabs and still get fine gold rings?

i have a silver and just tossing up whether to get the Golden if the notch system works to notch out tabs but still finds the small gold rings then i will add it for sure.

sure am open to it though.

AJ

The notch feature is for coins and if a ring happens to fall in the acceptance range-great. If a ring is in the tab range-and these are usually the ones that pay for a detector-not great at all. It's just the way it is. I would rather have the Golden because the discrimination can be lowered to nails whilst the Silver is EITHER all metal or discriminate and the tones and notch give it more versatility. For instance, I've been using a tone machine during this incredible heat spell to avoid staying out so long.

thanks for the replies :)

so the notch system will not notch out above and below say the tab range only above tab?

so really its only advantage over the silver is tones ?

just trying to get my head around the notch system.

While notch is a good enough feature of the golden , it is not what makes this detector shine.
By comparision to other detectors I can out hunt most other detector users in pure recovery speed with the clean sweep.
How it functions as a detector is a whole different experience than the GB for example.
You have to use them both to truly understand the difference.
The GB is a great detector in it's own right. But the golden does shine pretty bright.

Frankly speaking, I don't trust notching. Too easy to block out some good stuff, especially gold given the wide, wide range of conductivity of gold.

yes love the tesoros with CSC cant beat the speed and coverage just trying to decide if i need the Golden as my 4th Tesoro or be happy with silver, cibola, tejon. after all can only use one at a time i have them in order to cover say a field with the 3 of them just wondering if the Golden will pick anything out the others might miss?

or maybe i am just a Tesoro addict > do they have TA meetings??

Sure. Here is how I would put it.

You can run the Golden without the notch discrimination and you will be using something very comparable to a Silver.

But, let us say that you are hunting a very trashy area and you are really fed up with digging tons of junk, especially screw caps and pull tabs. This is not hard to imagine, especially if you are hunting during this incredible summer heat wave. You get wore out faster than normal.

By using the notch feature, you can start knocking those screw caps and pull tabs out of the picture, while keeping most of you gold and nickel targets. Will you run the risk of losing some gold? Sure you will. Any discrimination above iron will start costing you gold. But it gives you the option of digging less junk and more treasure, which in certain situations, you will want.

I use a Compadre and there are times I wish I had some notch discrimination abilities. Sometimes I want to dig it all, other times, depending on circumstances, I want to cherry pick just a little bit. That is what the Golden is all about.

Hope that helped and good luck on your final choice!

I've used at least one of most of the Tesoro models made since the Golden Sabre II was released, and a few of the older models, and the Golden is by far my all time favorite Tesoro. It's not as deep as some of the other models, including the Silver

will read these posts more thoroughly latter but just from the quick read now i recon you got me :detecting: so big thanks for taking the time to post this very useful info up :clapping:

what coil you guys using was going with the clean sweep and the 10 x 12.

cheers for the help

AJ

My advice, if you're looking for gold, you have to dig everything above iron!
I'm just sayin'

I have the silver, and I had many different ones from the xlt to the 1266x, you have to dig everything to get the gold, the best discriminator is the shovel, notch or no notch.Best of Luck, Hank.
