Would the silver umax be able to pick up thin silver or gold chains at the beach (dry sand) if so what do you think would be the Max. depth

Yes it can.How deep depends on the size of the chain and how it's placed in the ground/sand.If it's straight in the sand it's harder to detect than being in a circle.
