Silver uMax ?

synthnut

Well-known member
I've read so many Tesoro posts whereby so many various Tesoro's are mentoned, yet so many that have had so many Tesoro's mention the Silver uMax as being one of thier favorites ....What is it about the Silver uMax that garners so much praise ? ....Guys will say that they have had so many other machines but end up LOVING their little Silver uMax the most ....I know it's a great little detector , but what makes it so loved ? ....Thahks, Jim

Jim---It is so loved because it is so warm & cuddly!! -----OK--here's why I like mine (ours): (1) It's smooth running---(2) I like both the 8 inch "donut" stock coil and the 5.75 on it (good coils)--they don't get "tremendous" depth, but acceptable (unless your going for deep stuff)---(3) It's lightweight (2.2 lbs.)---(4) Quick to use (turn on & go, basically)---(5) Cheap to run (one 9v battery & it lasts quite awhile)---(6) Finds you a lot of targets (coins) quickly--provideing they aren't deep---and (7) It's just FUN to use, I have a "blast" with that little Silver.-----I have my "big guns" (Etrac & F-75 LTD) but sometimes I just want to grab the little Silver umax and "have a ball"---I love it.-----It's SO warm & cuddly!!!! ----I got it for the grandkids to use when they come to visit but ole grandpa has found out Tesoros "best kept secret" and those grandkids aren't here all the time anyway.---I get to use it some (when I can get it away from the wife, that is). -------Del

D&P has it nailed down.
I just made a deal for one with the 8" and 5.75" coil. It was such a good deal. couldn't pass it up.
Bought it for my wife as a surprise next month.............wonder who will use it more?

Hey Del ,
Warm and cuddly huh ? ..... You must have gotten the sister !!....My brother's got her brother !!....He's a fun guy though !!.....I too have the big guns , but love the fact that I can just throw my brothers Silver in the car and hunt for a little while , or all day with it ....It surely has its place like tot lots and the like ....I'll take my E Trac for the deep Silver in the parks , but for extra spending money , I grab my brothers Silver uMax .....Thanks for your reply ....Jim

Sven,
You remind me of me ......I bought my wife a guitar for her birthday .....She doesn't play !!! ..... I told her I would teach her .... ......She told me that she would teach me how to cook and clean the house !!.... ......I got the message loud and clear !!!.....Jim

Although you can get better depth with a slower sweep speed, it hits fast on targets the first 3-4" and thus makes a great competition machine. The ability to switch to a/m mode for checking targets helps for gold seekers. It's not too shabby on depth and the tone is nice and pleasant. You don't have to listen to a long tone for the battery check when you first turn it on and cause all the dogs in the neighborhood to start howling. Placing the disc to where tabs just "break" gives extra depth in tabby areas and gets targets under trash that notch detectors miss. I also have a spot memorized on my disc dial where tabs break up-not just click-but are almost accepted. Then I hunt at foil discriminate and when I find a target that's questionable in sound, I rotate the dial to this place and if it breaks up, I know it's a tab. If it goes silent, it's in the nickel range. If it still sounds, I know it's probably a coin.

I like the Silver

Del,
Don't laugh !!....I'm actually a pretty good cook/chef !!.....

These are all great answers ..... I'm not a competition hunter, but I could see how the Silver could really excel in this area ....That's the one thing I noticed about it as oposed to my E Trac .....The Silver will hit fast, and recover fast since the technology used is more direct...Jim

Yeah, the Silver makes a good competition machine.---The only thing it lacks for that use is a frequency shift.---If your "competition" has the same frequency machine AND gets to close to you in a competition hunt--that's a nice feature to have (as in the "V" or "C").

Jim----RELAX---I wasn't "laughing at ya"---I was "laughing with ya"!!----Dinner ready??? -------Del
