Silver Umax

Onus

New member
I recently won a Silver Umax at a competition hunt. It is not an expensive detector and I thought I'd get familiar with it and use it as a spare and a loaner. What I found out was, this little detector is a killer! It's light, easy to operate and dang it's deep too. Anyone just starting and wanting something less expensive to try first before moving up to another unit could do a lot worse than the little Umax. I have the now famous ACE 250 and I believe the Umax is its match. Just wanted to pat the Tesoro fellows on the back, the Silver Umax is a winner. Onus

Yeah, I have both, also. Some days I get lazy or in a trashy area and give in to the Ace. But when I'm serious and have plenty of time and want to pinpoint faster, I grab the umax. My dealer included a carry bag since I had a bad experience with another detector and when the summer comes, I can just backpack it on my bicycle and that's nice, too. One year I used it exclusively (before I got the ACE) and just about every school I frequented was kept almost trash-free and when you keep this practice up it makes you wonder why one would want anything else.

I have both also. My ACE 250 I have only used a couple times. It sits as a loaner. It is a lot of feature for the money, not a bad machine, but the bell tone is not my cup of tea. I prefer the Tesoro audio.

I've never tried the ACE, but had a different model Garrett and a Prizm at one time. I've had experience with 5 diffferent Tesoros, still own them and they all pinpointed way better than the two others mentioned. Mainly because the others were quite slow to respond and retune after hitting the target, especially if trash were near. While the Ace, the Garrett I had, and the Prizm all had TID, I found I could do as well or better with just the tone. I like TID in well mancured parks and lawns as a help, but always go by sound first, then consider what the ID is indicationg. Anyway, I'm not surprised you really like the Silver, for the price, they're a good little unit.

I paid for my uMax the first time out(with CW relics). I've used it so much since then that the shaft has gotten 'creaky", but it still works great.
