silver umax vs silver sabre umax

hey guys ...looking for some impute on the differences on the new silver umax vs the older silver sabre umax...i like the idea of pinpoint and treshold for depth on the sabre...is there any difference in depth? the sabre's seem hard to find..Would i be gaining anything if i want and wait for the sabre...thanks to all...

I couldn't tell that much difference-the Silver Sabre may have had a faster reset. The a/m mode on the Silver umax seemed to be a little deeper, however.

I would have to suggest you do a Google comparing the two Silvers. I did, and found enough to suggest you do the same. You have to believe the Sabre being hard to find is a good indication there is good reason for it, and there is. HH,Charlie

Thanks. I loved mine but had a bad experience and sent it to the factory 5 times and it was never fixed. Finally found out several months after I traded for the Silver umax that the factory had completely replaced the circuitry for the dealer I bought it from. So I've had many years with the Silver umax and only a few months with the Silver Sabre.

I have 2 Silver Sabre

Monte covered that better than I did. He's right about the Sabre not being sold very often. I'm holding on to both of mine as one serves the wife quite well and I just generally like them. I know if I sold them, I'd wish I hadn't.

Monte,

I've read quite a bit of your posts over the years, and your adsolutely right about the Silver Sabre Umax being one of the BEST Tesoro detectors ever made!
It's red pinpoint button with TRUE ALL METAL PINPOINT,is UNBEATABLE for target sizing/composition!
And the Silver Sabre Umax threshold control gives it yet another edge!

When I saw the new Silver Umax,I thought the ALL METAL toggle switch was the same as the red pinpoint button
on the older Silver Sabre Umax! (But then Tesoro told me it was only an ALL METAL **ACCEPT** mode with less/lower discrimination!!!)

Tesoro needs to put the old ALL METAL PINPOINT function of the Silver Sabre Umax,(red plastic push button),
BACK ON THE NEWER SILVER UMAXES!! BUT INSTEAD OF THE PLASTIC RED PUSH BUTTON, A STEEL TOGGLE SWITCH so users don't have to hold their thumbs CONSTANTLY while pinpointing!

The Troy Shadow X2 has to be of my FAVORITE all time detectors, simple, yet EFFICIENT!!

(I also LOVE THE X2 Super 7" coil it had, with depth comparable or deeper than the heavy brown donut coil!)

****Why do companies drop the BEST- **USUALLY OLDER** TECHNOLOGY,for the newer CRAP???????!!!******

Someone also needs to also start making that *HOT* Troy Super 7" coil again!!!

I'm sure the fans of the late great Tesoro models would like these features on a "new" Tesoro, but "times....they are a changing" and I don't think it would happen. If you want these features, look to the used market. I like the features that you mention too, so I bought the 'best' of the older Bandido line. In my small collection, I have acquired through the years, the first model Bandido, second model Bandido ll and the last one.......the Bandido ll

Hi Hombre,

Thanks for the reply...I've read the older Bandito's are better in the trash also,(I guess because the newer ones added some depth?)

Also, is the Shadow X2 a cocentric coil,or a modified widescan? (I've read the Super 7 detects all the way out to it's edges)..
