Silver uMax to Deleon

I have the 12x10 Spider coil and I am not satisfied with the depth over the 8" coil on the uMax. Dont want to tweak this coil killer so I'll leave the 4" on the uMax and get a Deleon and use it with the larger coil. Would this combo get better depth? Im good in my area without man GB. TID sounds good too. Would the threshold be of use in coin fishing? Want to hunt the older parks a little better. Got my first silver dime 2 weeks ago with uMax and sniper at 2.5" in old park.

I have tried alot of coils on the DeLeon and like the 5.7 the best, but i only use the DeLeon to coin shoot. For the type of hunting i do and the locations that i use the DeLeon in, i did not see any benifits of the 12x10 over the 5.7 or stock coils.

I've used that 4" coil and it's pretty neat. It's so quiet and responsive because it doesn't seem to be affected so much by deeper ground or trash signals. I may put mine back on.

I haven't tried the 5.75 on the smaller uMax units yet... I have a 4" and it is pretty surgical in heavy trash or brush the thing about the 4" is it being so small and light people tend to sweep it too much as if they had a bigger coil on the machine.I found in Heavy trashy sites if I just barely sweep and add a small wiggle to the 4" it helps it pick coins amongst the pull tabs pretty well. I want to try the 5.75 though & if it's like the 5.75 on the Tejon it should be a nice coil accessory for the smaller units.

I tried the 12x10 on my Cortes, didn't do any better than the 8x9 on smaller coins, did a little better on quarters tho. Also was quite heavy and seemed to be affected by my mild soil. Had it a short while then sold it.

I've used the 12x10 on two occasions, and that was out in a pasture at an old Town site. it got a little better depth using it on my Bandido II I used to own but not that much better than the stock 8" brown coil that came with the Bandido II. 2 more inches was probably all I got ... if that. The key to the 12x10 I think is listen for a faint repeatable whisper of a signal. and dig it. I found some buttons that way, but I also had pull tabs that gave off faint signals and were deeper than I ever thought a pull tab would've been too. I think the coils that came with each unit were matched to that particular unit for maximum separation & depth.the smaller coils are all I'll add to my arsenal from now on.... I wasn't really impressed with the 12x10 for what it costs to purchase one. Some people may think differently on that but the 12x10 was wasted money to me. Anybody want one? lol

I've heard the 9" Spider and super 7" for the x-2 were great coils to have but those are way too rare to find and expensive to boot when you do. the x-2 coils were made different from the original Tesoro coils ... meaning they transmit & receive reverse from what the Tesoro coils do making them a little hotter than the normal accessory coils. ( This is what I've been told at least) If someone knows more about the x-2 coils I'd like to hear their take on em.

I have tried the 12x10 coil on a few Tesoro's and never really noticed a benefit with it over stock coil. Not saying it is a bad coil just that the stock coil that Tesoro's come with are very good. Steve.

The test reports on th 12x10 coil seem to vary from person to person, but it will give you more depth....up to 3 or more inches in certain conditions. I bought the coil for my Silver

My DeLeon is several inches deeper than my other

yes!..the windings were reversed on the troy 7,and it is more sensitive nearer the outer edge as well!..
troy said this in a phone conversation a long time ago!

Certainly gives more coverage, in some areas expect an inch or two more in depth but in other areas have to lower the sens. to reduce chatter so sort of a catch 22 as to depth increase..Certain make the unit nose heavy and indeed smaller coils seem to be much more a plus as far as acc. coils go...Always plus and minus features in acc. coils so your call if the change is worth it depending on your neck of the woods and hunting needs...

I seem to have the same concerns with this coil. I wonder if Tesoro could tweak the Deleon to work better with 12x10. I really dont wont to go too deep in these parks and fields but 6" should work w/TID. Might be getting 4.5 to 5 on quarters now. While clad hunting is more accessible to me I have thought of focusing on silver fishing only. NOT Thanks guys good info.

I'm seeing that in a lot of cases , people are trying to sqeeze as much as they can out of a less costly machine ....Hey , who doen't want the best peformance that they can have ? ....I have found in my case that if you want more depth, you're really going to have to pay for it and get a better machine ....If you are wanting to change coils , you really need a machine that has a manual Ground Balance if you want optimum performance ..... If you really want to cut corners, you can always go into the machine and do your own Ground Balance adjustments, but you void your warranty, which you might not mind on a machine like the uMax Sliver ... People have been thowing their trash around for many years .... They did not have paid people picking up trash in the parks many years back so the garbage dropped where the people stood !!.....Most parks are pretty trshy where the people congragated and where you will find your most finds ......Picnic area's and such .... For me , the smaller coils work better in these area's .... As some folks call it , they work "Surgically " with the smaller coils ....You can pick and choose targets much easier with these smaller coils, and they run a LOT more quietly ....What you give up in depth , you gain in accuracy and target seperation .... I don't really see the benefits of a 10 x 12 coil in the parks .....The Beach would be a different story ....Less trash to deal with and wide open spaces to cover .... If I can find a 10 x 12 coil cheap enough , I might go in and adjust my brothers uMax Silver to accomodate it for a Beach machine !!.....I'll bet that bad boy will go DEEEEEEEEEEEP in the sand !!.....Good Luck with whatever you do and I hope your finds make you happy !!....Jim

I've been using the 10 x 12 on the Umax over here in Australia, and my experience has been positive. Much better depth than the stock coil in my mild ground, and my deeper finds have certainly increased. As others have said, the chatter can be overwhelming at times and it takes a good ear to identify a solid signal thru' the crackle & pops. I don't find the extra weight to be much on an issue on the Umax - it's hardly noticeable.
