Silver Umax & tabs

Tabcollector

New member
Hey guys just a quick question. I went on a short hunt today and didn't have much time so I was running the disc right below zinc to pull dimes & quarters, found some but kept getting solid hits on tabs and some small foil, is this normal for the Umax? This is only my second hunt with it. Thanks for any replies.

My experience with every detector I've used is similar to what you describe. To really discriminate out every tab size and shape as well as most foil you usually have to run the disc. so high that you'll also miss many of the good targets. If you really want to go bonkers, try hunting in camp areas where melted aluminum chunks from pop or beer cans have be swept out of the fire pits - drive you crazy.

Tones , My silver .I run at just on the O on foil. If I hit a tab it'll usually give me a beep one way and a double bleep, bleep The other way. If I Question the target I will thumb the disc knob past the tab mark to see if it drops out. Helps Me allot distinguish between targets.

As always when ever you Question a target Dig it anyway.

Never had a problem with tabs with the disc that high. BTW, as per Jack Gifford's suggestion, I run mine in tabfest areas where the tabs just break up. Find coins near tabs this way.

Thanks for the replies, it must have to do with the type of soil and tab mix because I can air test the tab and it discs out where it should. Also I can run the disc on min and it still knocks out nails and such, is this the norm also? The Silver seems to be a great machine just have to learn the quirks.

Yes, min. disc. knocks out nails. That is why I also have the Compadre. You can set the disc. level to just barely knock out paper clips and bobby pins without going in to a/m mode as you have to on the Silver.
