Hi guys, would some of you post a few settings for a new user of this machine, I would rather NOT dig a lot of trash if possible so a good medium setting would be appreciated.thanks oneill

If you want to find coins only, throw a pulltab on the ground and turn disc. clockwise until the signal sputters and spits. This will get you in the ballpark and will pick up on zinc cents and higher conductors . If you don't want zincs........ disc them out the same way and you will find copper pennies and higher conductors like dimes, quarters etc. Doing it this way eliminates nickels and almost all gold rings however.

spot on ,,,, have fun ( I run mine just under foil,,, use the "Tesoro shake" to weed out allot of trash

Mr Gifford himself recommends just below nickel. Here's a new one. Find the spot on the dial where tab's break up noticeably- not just a "click", but an almost signal. Mark this spot on the face. It will not be too far a turn from the just below nickel setting. Now whenever you get a signal at the lower setting, rotate the dial to this spot and (1. if the signal breaks up-it's in the tab range; (2. if it goes silent, it's in the nickel range; and (3. if it still signals, it's in the coin range. All this info with just one move! With the "trash talk" characteristics of the Silver, you probably won't have to check many signals in a relatively tab-free environment. I used this for a while, but I prefer the min. disc. setting since gold went so high. Still, this mark will ALWAYS come in handy just knowing it's possibilities.

I am going to try that pull tab thing on my Vaq, however, I find that different pull tabs and different pieces and parts of pull tabs, and the dreaded, beavertail folded over so it looks like a coin, pulltab does not disc out in the same area.
I dig all solid signal from just above Iron and up anyway, but this might help some in a real trashy sites or when I get tired of tabs and just want to shoot coins..
One thing I know, it is actually more accurate on all Tesoro's to turn the disc up and dial down to the area where the target comes in, rather than to disc up to where the target dics out.
Don't know why ths is true, but it is.

Me,too. Yeah, I used this for a while and it gets fooled just as easy as my Royal Sabre and Ace 250- those little pieces and parts would sometimes register as nickel, foil, etc. Plus, with Tesoro's quick pinpointing ability, it was just easier to reach down and pop up the target and go on.

Howdy Guys

Just a reminder, that disc. knob is a tool to adjust to hunting conditions.....Location is to be considered and the amount and type of trash you are digging. I hunt old abandoned house sites, torn down house sites (cellar holes) demolition, construction, street and sidewalk tearouts. So I adjust disc. to just knock out small rusty nails and dig all good sounding signals. I also hunt occupied victorian homes and do so with permission. I usually use an analog metered detector for these homes and search for higher conductors and if I find indicator targets, wheat pennies, indian head pennies, old silver coins, then I will start digging the lower conductor signals such as solid foil, nickels, and pulltab signals. You have to be discriminate in your digging when you are hunting somebodies yard.

The pulltab range of signals has for me produced the most interesting relics and jewelery, for instance I dug about a dozen beavertail pulltabs in one old yard that had given up indians, mercs and barber silver. I got a sweet tone on my Toltec ll, the meter read pulltab, switched to all-metal to size the target and the meter indicated 5 inches deep, and dug up a old cavalry crossed sabre hatpin. Made my day! I have also dug up old two piece eagle millitary buttons in this range. Tokens come in at this range also.......and my oldest gold ladies highschool ring (1939) came in solid and loud at around 5 inches deep.

I agree,,, by the time I did the disc knob ID thingie I found I could have the target dug and on to the next one,,

Please explain what the Tesoro shake is

Here ya go.

Does not work sometimes, but sometimes it does work well.
I have found my concentric coil and 10x12 DD coil will react a little differently when using this technique.
A little more accurate with the round one.
