silver umax salt water beach

Just a question: How is the silver umax on saltwater beaches? I have a compadre that isn't very good on these beaches, and because I live on an island surrounded by saltwater, I would like to get an affordable detector to detect these beaches. My compadre seems to be ok on the freshwater though. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Not going to be any better Thann the compadre I would gear more towards a PI machine if I were you

CZ21 or Minelab exacalibur or a Tesoro sand shark. read up on how each one of these work and pick the best for what you want it to do.

Salt water and affordable are two words that don't go together. Consider a Sand Shark.

Hello jerrym663, The detector you have will find jewelry and coins in the dry sand. Also hit the towel line real good to locate treasure. In no time you will have enough saved up to buy a new or a good used detector designed for salt water beaches. Many have done it this way and you can do it to. Have fun while your meeting your goal.http://imageshack.com/a/img843/224/tz0u.jpg

When i get a water machine it will be a sand shark

You never know what you are gonna find with the compadre . A few bits of gold would get you a shark . Lots of detectors bought with compadre finds .Start hitting the woodchips in parks, one find was $400 for me . It does happen !

My first Detector Was the Vaquero but in my heart I always wanted a beach machine. Vaquero was my second choice and Minelab Sovereign my first because it is a salt water beach machine. Budget dictated my decision so I ended up up with with a used Vaquero, and added Killer B headphones then Garrett pinpointer pro and lastly a 10x5 DD coil for hunting salted ground. The extras were bought over a 2.5 year time period and I only had limited success in salt areas with the 10x5 DD . Hunted last fall with the DD elliptical and it is staying on the Vaquero. It now 5 years and the Vaquero is a keeper and I am still learning but I an still find myself over on the beach and water hunting forum.
The sea is still calling me and I just completed a 6 month search for a beach detector and ended up with the Sovereign.
Just saw " 53silver " on you tube and he described the the Sovereign as a Vaquero on steroids.
Just about no discrimination on PI machines and the Sovereign has discrimination and notch also and is stable is salt environment so it is the perfect companion for the Vaquero.
Keep learning and using what you have and when the time comes you will be ready to move to the detector that will suit your hunting desires.
All the Best Jerrym663

About the best I've done outside of micro jewelry hunting with the compadre .using the silver umax with the 3x18 widescan coil as it handle the beaches a bit better. I don't recommend submerging the coil is saltwater as it'll do nothing more then false signal .

Many different units out there to chose fromand I'd highly recommend a dual frequency unit for beach hunting like the Whites Beach Hunter 300, Fisher CZ-21 or excaliber. IMHO. those are 3 of the best water units. The Tiger shark by Tesoro will handle the fresh water rather well but not so good in salt water conditions. If you plan on a Pi.I unit you'll dig everything as there is not discrimination.

Best of luck.

I have read this many times, but it appears the Excalibur and the CZ-21 both have discrimination?

The Excalibur is just a water proof Sovereign that is why they are grouped together in the Minelab forum. A used sovereign is far less expensive than the Excalibur if you can live with a non water proof detector.

As stated above, use the Silver and hunt the dry sand. You will find enough bling and coins to upgrade. Better yet, look for out of the way freshwater beaches where your Silver will have no problems. Turn the disc down low and dig all good repeatable signals. Look at post in this forum by Tabman and Deliveryboy, they are awesome at finding rings. Hunt to you Silvers strengths to find the goods to pay for an upgrade, the wet salt water sand is not one of them. Lots of rings are taken off and laid on towels, the towels get picked up, the rings go flying, the Silver finds them! Good luck!
