Silver Umax is a keeper winter dig in Minnesota

I had a Silver umax 6 years ago and let it go because it had no ground balance, and could not hit a dime at 8" deep and figured it for a junk detector , since then i have gone thru a bunch of detectors , like the Sov GT the Gold bug , the Vaquero , the Blisstool, not saying i did not like them but i now realize that hyper depth, and ground balance do not completely make something no good , so after some time i realize I like the Silver and it is doing very well , it seems to handle the gravel very good and gets good depth in the woods and i love that nice sweet sound it makes on deep targets that slug was at least 6" deep maybe more, this is one detector i will keep . you can hear it reacting to the lines I had it maxed out . but when i started swinging it it would be quite, this thing is a super machine in that 1st 5 to 8 inches

Another great video Gunnar. Now that you've tried both, which do you prefer: the Silver uMax or the 8" coil Compadre?
Happy Hunting,
Mike

I just love watching your videos! The Tesoro Silver µMax sure does have a sweet audio. It's my favorite.

I like the silver U-max way better, thats why i let the compadre go . its gone now I like the gain knob it makes a big difference. and i like the modulated response on deeper targets, I like it way better when you turn it on its got a nice quite bL--eep not a tornado alarm. and now I have the ability to change coils , and I am planning to get the sharp shooter NEL I think it will give a bit of an edge in more mineralized ground and coverage.I don't know but i just really like this machine . the compadre has the try edge on finding gold chains no doubt about it and it is still a good detector but this silver is nice , very similar to the outlaw thanks tab I don't know if the video does it justice but it was making that soft sure sound on that slug and i have gone over the spot before, but that small 8" coil gets in between the brush good , its hard to think we have no frost in the woods maybe i can get back out

Wow, your still out hunting, no detecting for me, weather not cooperating one bit.
The Silver is a good machine for the money, hunted most of one summer with one.
may not find the small gold chains, still finds the thin gold rings and did real well with silver jewelry...
Good Luck

as allways good vid how is the silver in iron say a old house site thanks

Gunnar, great video, just love that 'Sven's Super Duper' sound system that you use with your detectors   thats a quality piece of modern technology

HO HO HO,, I didn't build that super duper sound system..............wait until you see what comes on your next detector build..............:heh:

sven I noticed the silver is really good on silver , metals so it is a compliment to the Mirage . Razorback I have done a few test in Iron and i would say its not poor in Iron but its not something that better than other brands, like a vista gold its about average, I do have an iron infested spot but have yet to get it into it and i have only dried the 8" concentric but it can hit good targets as long as Iron is on the same level and maybe a tad below but if Iron gets above a good target then its going to mask so i would say average performance in Iron even my bliss tool would get foiled on an 8" dime if a staple was on the 1st inch over it

thanks for the info

I have found the Silver seems to be more sensitive to iron than the Compadre. I will do a video when I can.

That could be an easy fix for a few of us. Machineman. Recalibrating that unit with a Big chunk of iron and adjusting the disc to be a bit more sensitive to nock it out where it should and possibly readjusting the sens pot as well . Sometimes you can deal with the way they come from factory other times Speaking formyself now. I can't help but make it the way I want it.

I hunted agin today and every time I could tell it was Ironunder the coal, what is nice is little Irons, even in all metal make a crapy sound ,
