Which is better a silver umax or a conquistador? Are they the same except for the frequency switch on the conquistador?

Conquistador would be comparable to the Cibola!

Any advice he gives you about a Tesoro will be 100% correct..

The Conquistador offers an audible threshold setting in all metal which the Silver doesn't. Unless it's new, old stock, you won't find a new Conquistador whereas you can buy a new Silver. The later Conquistador had the frequency setting moved from under the box to the face plate and came with the 8X9 spider coil versus the 8" donut. It's my understanding that the later model is more desirable as the earlier ones had a problem with some of the settings drifting. Actual depth and performance between the Silver and the Conquistador should be fairly comparable if using the same size coils I would think. MY wife and I use 2 Conquistadors when we participate in seeded club hunts and they serve the purpose very well. Light, quick response, frequency switch for crosstalk and way more than adequate depth wise for that type of hunt. The Silver, Silver Saber

Wish I'd known that last spring before picking up a used one.
