silver umax came today

The umax came today and I assembled it and put a 9 volt battery in it.
The silver looked great except there was a scuff or two on the lower shaft but the rest looked mint.
The bolt that attaches the coil to the shaft was missing but it fit so tight I didn't put one in.
I am going to send it back because inside the house and set on a table it worked great.
It performed just like the the tests on youtube.
take it outside and forget it.It chatters like crazy no matter what the settings are.
Disc or all metal sensitivity low or high makes no difference. you could never hunt with this it would drive you crazy.
Is this the way they all are?

something isn't right with it because it should be super stable at almost all sensitivity settings. first time i hunted with my new silver i kept checking the detector with a coin to make sure it was still working because it was so quiet. try another battery in the machine and see if that helps. it is a great machine and once you figure out what is going on with it you will love it. might be worth calling tesoro if the battery doesn't seem to help. good luck! ........roger

If that is a NEW Silver and you cannot figure it out, you may want to send it to Tesoro and they'll take care of you. Also, let them know you need the bolt. Yes they fit tight, but at times the coil gets banged and the last thing you need is your coil dangling. If it is not a new detector and you cannot get it to quiet down, I would still send it back anyway. Good luck and let us know what happens. :tesoro:

I checked the connections and just for the heck of it replaced the 9 volt battery.
Most of the chattering in the disc mode went away but the all metal mode is still the same unusable.
Loud chatter-constantly.
I am waiting for the person I bought it from to reply so I can send it back.anyway
Thanks for the ideas-this thing is light as a feather compared to other detectord I have had.

You are almost better to buy from a dealer like richard from backwood detectors he will never screw you , lots of folks know somethings wrong whith a detector and sell it and you get the short end of the stick unless you know the member of thefourum and is proven trust worthy just buy from a dealer , for sure what you are discribing is not right at all i owned a silver and it never did that but it could be somthing very simple to fix

The seller contacted me and said no problem ship it back and he will refund the money.
Time to start looking again.
I had the eagle spectrum and the MXT and this thing was so lite you could hunt all day with it.
Thanks again.

It's a rare Tesoro that fails to function well.
Murphy must be passing through your neighborhood !

Glad to hear you are getting it resolved.

sorry to hear you didn't get it working right. don't let the bad experience with the silver umax you had keep you from looking for another used machine or even adding a few dollars to the price you paid for the used silver and get a brand new detector. it's a great detector for the money and will always be my favorite tesoro. and if you get another silver make sure to get the 5.75" coil for it too. its a blast to hunt with...........roger
