Silver Umax board?

Rebel1

Member
I have a Silver Umax that i need to tweek the ground balance on to work right here in this highly mineralized Oregon soil. So could someone post a pic of the circuit board with the locations of the Threshold and Ground Balance pots marked. I would appreciate it. Thanks

There's only one pot about center board very small phillips white housing blue adjustment screw I believe
I fine tuned mine for colorado soil got almost 2" improvement in my test garden but took about
an hour and a half of trial and error ie; tweak and test, repeat, both in All-metal and Disc.
There was a write-up somewhere I tried at first but wasn't happy with my result so
kept messin'

If someone was skilled with a small soldering iron, it could be done. The Silver µMax has no threshold based all-metal circuit so ground balance could not be performed in the traditional threshold all-metal mode. The way you would have to GB the modded Silver µMax would be the way Monte teaches the "Power Balancing" method. The Silver µMax circuit board is just not that advanced, on the older Silver Sabre µMax it could be done since it has the threshold all-metal circuit.

Also, it would be easier to just buy a Tesoro with manual ground balance, Outlaw, Vaquero, Tejon, or a Tiger Shark. Otherwise I would pick a model that has a threshold based true all-metal mode, like the Cibola or the older Silver Sabre µMax that I mentioned ......... the Silver µMax does not have it.

Thanks for the info Hombre but it doesn't matter now. I sold the Silver. WIll be lloking for a Vaquero or Outlaw.

a piece of hematite iron ore to set the GB to just slightly positive then back off slightly while swinging iron sample across coil and adjusting pod. Got to try it. HH

Use a ferrite core or ferrite rod.
Wave the ferrite under the coil. Adjust GB until you only pick it up within an inch of the coil to arrive at a good fixed position.
Now bury a dime and check the depth your getting it at. Depending upon your soil conditions you might want to turn the GB pot one way or the other
a micro adjustment at a time. Also if you wave a hot rock under the coil and you get a gold signal, you will have to turn the GB pot until it barely makes a signal when directly under the coil. A couple unscientific ways to adjust the GB trimpot. Just make sure you set disc in all metals, sensitivity at 10 or max. Or adjust per Monte power balancing info
