Silver uMax and Widescan/DD coils

Southwind

Well-known member
I'm looking to get a widescan/DD coil for my Silver uMax tot lot machine. Any suggestions on which coil would work best in a tot lot environment?

I'm looking at the widescan/DD for better ground coverage, but I want good depth and sensitivity yet light and maneuverable in a tot lot type location.

I don't know how much depth you are looking for in a tot lot but... the CleanSweep is a DD coil and works great for that. 6" is about max depth.

I use the 3x18 in tot lots. Works really great. The way I see it, tot lots are searched all the time and so newly dropped coins and jewelry is what I focus on and the 3x18 does the job very well for shallow stuff. Covers a lot of ground real quick.

Some that I hunt are worked regularly and thinned out a bit, but the bulk of them get frequent use and can have a fair amount of coin/jewelry loss, and that can mean multiple targets close together. Therefore, I don't like big coils, and favor something in the 5

i tried a widescan 8 1/2" coil on my silver umax recently and didn't see any advantage with it. actually i dug more trash with the widescan coil. pinpointing was a little harder, but i got used to it after a few targets. the concentric coils are deeper and pinpoint much better for me. monte gave you good advice.... go with a 5.75 or 7 inch coil for tot lots. the 5.75 coil is what i have and it works great with good depth and great pinpointing ability............roger
