silver umax and the 5.75 coil

i got my new 5.75 coil for my silver umax today and had to take it out for a test drive despite the heat...it was 93 and muggy. i drove to a nice little park in jacksonville called duncan park to hunt a tot lot there. the tot lot was full of kids so i opted to hunt around some of the big trees in the shade. didn't find anything great..just a couple of clad dimes and a nickel but this little coil on the silver umax is a blast to use. it's super light and it really hits on coins hard. it seemed easier to judge the depth of the target with this coil because of the way it responds. a coin near the surface makes the signal dance and a deeper coin sounds more mellow. i air tested this coil and was impressed with it. not quite as deep as the stock coil but darn close. the silver umax and this coil will make a killer combo in the trash!............roger

Yeah, I gotta get one. Were there any metallic poles where you could test how close it would search to them. I'm thinking about one for the playgrounds and have heard they will get close to them. Glad you're enjoying it.

HI SLINGSHOT, I NEVER GOT TO USE THE COIL AROUND ANY KIND OF METAL POLES BECAUSE THE TOT LOT WAS FULL OF KIDS BUT FROM WHAT I'VE READ, YOU CAN GET UP CLOSE AND NOT HAVE PROBLEM. YOU WILL LOVE THIS COIL. I PROVED THAT IT WORKS IN TRASH AT MY DADS HOUSE. IN HIS BACK YARD THERE IS ENOUGH METAL TO DRIVE YOU CRAZY WITH A BIGGER COIL, BUT WITH THE 5.75 COIL I ISOLATED A COUPLE PENNIES IN AN AREA THAT I GAVE UP ON BEFORE. IT DOES WORK WELL IN TRASH. ............ROGER

not get carried away with a too-fast sweep speed. That's one of the problems I have noted some people having when they go to a smaller-than-stock coil especially with an already light-weight detector such as the Tesoro's. Actually, I see some people sweep too fast with a stock coil for the ground minerals they are hunting in, but a smaller coil increases the odds that a fast sweep can cut in on performance. (I'm not saying you are sweeping too quickly, but this might benefit some readers.)

It's caused by the fast sweep swamping the filter circuits with too much ground signal and it can't process and pass along the target signal. The 5
