Silver Umax and I went coinhunting Sunday...........:canadaflag:

for a few hours at a local schoolyard.

Didn't find much in the grassy areas in the sports field, couple quarters and several pennies. But as I walked towards the large sand filled tot lot, dug a 1901 Canadian large cent. Cool, first old coin in several months.

Dug a Loonie and several quarters in the tot lot. Went back to the car to get my sand scoop to make digging easier.
When I was done had a large handful of change, mostly pennies. In total about $4.50 cents plus one silver plated ring.

Hopefully get out several more times before the big freeze hits and the snow begins to fall............

Congrats! HHH!

Sounds like a very nice hunt Sven. The Silver is such a fun detector to use.

Wow! Finding an old coin in a tot lot sure is a big surprise.

Ok is it just me.... nice work on 4.50 in clad in a few hours. I hunted for around 3 hours this past weekend and only pulled about 2.00. Honestly I have never pulled more than 2.50 in a 3 hour hunt.. I think you did a very good job and gotta love the 1901!!

It's all clear now.

Sven are you going to Mod this Silver ? Jay

No, my wife uses it, trying to keep the detector simple as possible.............but, the thought crossed my mind.... at least for ground balance.

A few of my personal thoughts and observations on preset versus adjustable ground balance machines. (for whatever it's worth)
If a person is going to own one machine only I'd definitely recommend a detector with either true auto ground tracking or manual ground balance. Manual may be preferred because it can be tweaked to suit you on the go. You may seldom detect in areas where it is essential, but when you do, you'll definitely need it.

That said, most of my detecting is done in fairly mild ground and I have done quite well using preset ground balance detectors. In my opinion, they often get put down more than deserved because they can and do work quite well in a fair range of ground conditions as long as the ground is reasonable. If one is regularly hunting ground that is somewhat marginal or is using a different coil than the detector was calibrated to, then it may definitely be beneficial to have the detector tweaked to match. OR do as I've done and have both types in your arsenal.

There is something to be said for simplicity for some users.
