Silver U max vs Cibola

MikeyC

New member
I can get both for same price, which would be better for coins and jewelery? Any advantages to either?

Thanks

Since the discrimination is more adjustable in the iron segments and the pinpoint for sizing, and you can "supertune" for added depth-I would get the Cibola.

I own both and if I had a choice of just 1 I would take the Silver UMax because with the Cleansweep Coil is just a beast clearing clad out of a park. Down side to it is No Pinpoint for sizing (as stated above) and you have to purchase the Cleansweep Coil making you have to spend more money.

Cibola is a great lil machine but I don't do mods nor do I want a moded detector. I buy Tesoro for a great product and a great Warranty if I wanted a machine with no warranty left or a short lasting warranty I would buy Teknetics.

For the same price I would get the Cibola. It's deeper and the resale value is a lot higher.

That's a tough one as I've owned both.

The higher frequency on the Cibola should translate into a better capacity to find smaller gold.

But the Silver uMax, with the optional 12" coil is supposed to be very deep.

So I'd say this, if you want depth, get the UMax and grab that coil.

If you want smaller gold, go with the Cibola.

And as stated above, no matter which one you get, don't forget about investing in that clean sweep coil at some point.

Here is my dilema,I can get the them both for the same price but the Cibola is used with no warranty and I have to drive two hrs to get it.The Silver U is brand new with warranty and free shipping.I allready have a Vaquero that I was going to get the big coil for.I use the Vaquero and I wanted the other for the wife or kids to use.At least thats what I will tell my wife :)

Thanks

For the same price...Get the Cibola...Newer technology and a deeper machine.

And the warranty is still there...The paperwork just doesn't say it.

If there was one BEST machine...There would only be one for sale and we'd still be swapping them with each other...lol

Happy hunting
Gary

I'd go with the Cibola for the reasons mentioned as well as the fact that it will take the same coils as the Vaquero you already own.

And the warranty is still there...The paperwork just doesn't say it.

First, this statement is not correct.

Second, you say...."The same price"....except....you would have to drive 2 hours to get the cibola. Unless you ride a moped that's a tank of gas right there, so add another 50 to 75 dollars to the price of the cibola, as well as the fact that you dont have a warranty....not that they wont repair it for you, but legally they do not have to as you are not the original owner. It clearly states this information on the warranty card. Tesoro has been taken advantage of on many occasions, however they don't have to fix it if it breaks...unless you are the original owner.

Is it possible that you would be turned away if some crazy thing happened to your detector...sure

I have (as have a lot of people) dealt with Tesoro's warranty service a few times and they knowing I was not the original owner repaired the detector
for free and paid for shipping back to me. I do not believe that my statement is that far from the truth. Tesoro's warranty and customer service is as good as it gets.

You're just picking me apart cause I bought the coils...Don't make this a personal thing...If you have something to say to me please do it thru PM.

The man asked if given the choice which would be the better option between the two...I gave him my opinion.

I am stating fact, you are stating opinion. Two very different things. If you knowingly mislead someone, and assure them that they have a warranty, when in fact legally they do not...then that isn't being honest with them is it?

as far as the coils go...dont flatter yourself...

Knowingly mislead someone..oh come on...Why would I do that?

All the man has to do is call Tesoro and speak to one of the many there that will point him in the right direction. But he can also do a search about for the 2nd, 3rd, 500th owners that were taken care of under warranty as long as they didn't get attacked by a rabid monkey in a rain storm that was wielding a chain saw and he defended himself by smashing the detector over the things head. ( A little out there but you get my drift)

PER THE PAPERWORK...

"ALL TESORO metal detectors are covered by a limited LIFETIME WARRANTY. This warranty covers parts and labor, excluding transportation charges, for as long as the detector is owned by the original retail purchaser."

BUT I was told by those on the phone at Tesoro that as long as the thing does not show willful abuse or Modification and a part goes bad..It will be covered even with the understanding that you are not the original owner.

Okay if you want to hear me withdraw my warranty comment..sure...Per the actual paperwork..I'm wrong.

But if your second hand detector breaks....sell it to me..I'll have it up and running soon after and I'd be willing to bet it would be with the help of those at Tesoro.

But that's just my opinion.

Yup, just like GaryF said, but I just hate to see people send their detector in for repair, when they can't even ground balance the dar'nd thing. Read the manual folks.

Thank you for all the help,I think I have decided to just buy another coil for my Vaquero. Now another decision to make

Thanks
