Silver U-max scores old gold from the river!

Darkflight

New member
I've hunted this spot for a few years & this is the 1st (possibly) old ring I've found.... The spot has tons of potential and history-but it also is strewn with heavilly mineralized rocks & sand-and the usual trash/iron.

The sand swallows most stuff never to be seen again. But occasionally the current clears out the sand & heavy gravel holds some goodies. I went with my daughters for a fun hunt. I detected barefoot in the wading area & the girls making sand castles . I have waders & a water box etc... for this river but today it was just shallow wading with no extra gear & don't drop the dang detector!.

When I saw this I did the happy dance. The band is split-I guess the sized area solder is long gone(1st clue as to age)...Also-the script is vintage in style at least. No date sadly but I'd say it is clue #2 that this is an old ring.

It is marked 18K and very thin-just under 4 grams. But I was sooo happy to score at this spot after so many times getting skunked.

Cheers!

I gotta get me one of those SilverUmax's,, hey darkflight do you find the sensitivity knob comes in handy for tricky gold rings or do you leave it set at a certain point all the time ,,,, oh and nice ring too!

I think will all done a happy dance ever now and then, the silver umax is a fantastic machine I still have mine, and the ring is very nice indeed, congrats,

I have to say this one is a tricky one-being split & in the rocks...Around here the sand & rocks will hide gold very very well-even on the surface. So I use the all metal & go by the tone only. Iron/caps tend to stutter more but if you want chains you gotta dig anything that makes a consistent beep.

I learned this after sight finding a small gold ring-throwing it on the sand during a snackc break to get a VDI# with my fancy new (later sold)$500.00 detector...Zilch-nothing. In all metal it rang true. I had my silver with me & tried it later-same deal. Even at 0 disc it would not pick up the ring on the sand. The rocks are even worse-Red ones I think are cinibar sound just like a deep target even with the GB perfect(I have added a GB & voided the warranty).

And thanks-It is a really nice ring....

Nice one Darkflight,

Glad to see someone finding the gold, must be some nasty ground where you are hunting. It's nice to have ground balance pot, makes things easier..........Congrats:tesoro:

Darkflight,
Absolutely terrific find! Splits will normally put gold rings in the iron range and any discrimination will make them disappear. 18K and near 4 grams is nice too. Most gold rings I find are 10K or 14K and many of those are around 2 grams plus or minus a little. That is indeed a happy dance ring!
Cheers,

Did you have to drop that ring into a fire before the marking showed up?
Well done, nice find!
