Silver, the last Bay hunt of the year

Well-known member
3 1/2 hours Saturday, Chesapeake Bay, weather was nice. Wore boot foot waders, and a drytop. Temps were mild, 53 and water was 40.7, weather looks ruff the next few days plus I have a few jobs to work on so this is it for the year. Been a fairly good year with 12 gold rings and lots of silver. Wishing everyone a Healthy and Happy New Years.....

Nice bunch of finds joe.. I hit my local lake the other day.. open water, no ice , but 1 hr was all I could take.wore chest waders.i was warm except for my hands.found a 925 stud and a fishing lure .dry sand was frozen and snow covered.happy huntin.. nice silver..

Thanks BHP, I am hoping I can endure those condition but they have yet to hit here yet. What was your water temp there? Has to be close to 32 I would guess. This is really my first year at dressing for the cold (In Water) so each time I head out it is like a learning experience. Hopefully I can share what I learn as it gets colder for winter is such a down time one needs just to get out to break the winter blues. Yesterday I was using boot foot waders, with regular soxs, 3mm neoprene soxs, then I use walmart plastic bags on my feet so it's much easier to get into and out of the boots. On my legs I had thermos, then some military quilted thermos with jeans over that, then I had the drytop, t shirt, sweat shirt, with the red clammer gloves. At one point my right hand got chilled from being under water but all I had to do was take a 4 minute break and warm it up. Next trip I will wear a glove then the clammer gloves. My conditions are not even close to yours so I think I am prepared but we will see come February. Thanks again and you did well for the time spent in the water.....

Ya joe I know what you mean by -learning experience... I imagine my water temps had to be in the 30s. And air temps were about 32 as well with some sunshine..I really thought it would have thin layer of ice. I was wearing insulated cover alls under 3 mil chest waders. Nothing special on my feet or hands , so thats the place I was feeling cold .. I didnt have anything on my hands, which didnt really bother me until I would dig a target and my digger hanle would get wet then my hands also. But I wasnt planning to stay long anyway.. last fall when I was in OC and DEL we had that cold snap.was like 28 degrees in morning .I had my 7mil wet suit with but it didnt seem like it would be enough so I put the chest waders over the wet suit.. wow I was warm , actually too warm and wearing 10mil of neoprene was like walking in a moon suit.actually had to stay in the water to keep from overheating. So ya its trial and error.one thing fot sure though, mother nature will certainly let you know if you are over or under dressed.. good luck and stay save..

silver is always good when there is no gold

OBN here is a ring that looks like yours

Wow you lucky devil!!!! Great finds... saturday was a great day to detect sadly i was working... whats the 1918 coin?

Thanks BH, let me know next time you come over to OCMD, I will meet you there.

Thanks TC, looks just like it.....I am guessing but It maybe dated around the 40's, must have been a big thing during that time because Craig in Conn has one almost the same

Be Safe Guys and Happy New Years...

I think I have 95% of them, problem is getting to them. All sold to communities or boat marina's

When I made this list a year ago there was 77, now I think it is around 87 if I remember correct. And this is from the far north of the Bay to Below Calvert Cliffs, My last located is, Earl's Beach...the one I can't find is Lincoln beach in Baltimore. late 30's..I have info on it but no location...I have hundreds of pictures and banners on all...I have only hunted maybe 5 of them and everyone gives a little each time, you just have to find the low spots.

Hmm ill do some reasearch and ill let you know what i find on it... ive got some friends of mine that are big into our local history ill get them involved to theyd be tickled pink. I just finished tweaking my floating sifter so im hoping to get some water time in this year.

Good day for silver. Lots of old swimming holes around my area, I just can't seem to get out. It was cold at the river Saturday but nothing like what you had. Trapper gloves help in the cold water and if I don't get my wetsuit this week, I plan to order some online. My hands and feet were pretty cold, but when I get some under armor socks, I should be fine on the feet. I'm definitely leaning towards my wetsuit because the water is back up and I need to get out further to find some silver and gold. All I found was trash and a few pennies, but it was great to get out in the water. Hope you get out a few more times before the weather stops you. GL & HH.

Nice silver! Last silver coin I pulled from the tributaries was about two years ago. Happy New Year to you!
Cheers,
tvr
