Silver, silver, and more silver and other interesting things

GKMan

I battled the rain, lightening, bugs and weeds today to find lost treasures. I decided to take my mountain bike in order to get to the location quicker. Unfortunately, I found the trail had not been cut in a couple seasons so the weeds were high, wet and nasty. In the end I made it to the old swimming hole in record time though.
I put the bicycle down assembled the detector and got swinging. It didn't take long until I heard a target that had a lot of promise. In the end a little silver girl popped out of the hole. Her name is Kathryn with a Y and it is stamped 5-5-50. As excited as I was to find something that I could potentially put back in the hands of the owner,I didn't lose my head and forget to re-scan the hole. That's when the girls little brother Bradley popped out of the hole! He is dated 5-12- 58. Since I know so many people in this area I'm hoping that I could possibly find out who they are and get these back to them. I'm imagining it was on a mother's bracelet when it was lost all those years ago. As if the day couldn't get any better, it would surprise me with more. After scouring the area pretty well where I found the two sterling silver children, I moved down stream a bit. That's when I heard another great signal that only a fool would walk away from without recovering and I, not being a great fool recovered it. I kicked away the leaves and could already see the outline of silver on the surface. That target ended up being a 1912 barber dime. I had a feeling this lonely coin may have a couple friends nearby and it did, although only one, a 1910 V nickel. After checking this area thoroughly I moved down stream a bit more and heard an iffy signal but definitely worth recovery. It ended up being an old pocket knife, on the side it says Holley Manf. Co. I'll definitely have to do some research to find more about it.
That was the end of the great finds for the day although I did recover a couple of pieces of modern coinage, an antique sinker or two, and a wheat cent. This area is definitely worth going back to seeing what is left. Thanks for looking. Happy hunting.
