Silver sabre

Fairly new to the tesoro world. My golden has arrived but the hardware to connect the coil was missing, so I wait. Anyway, I always keep a detector in each vehicle. We just bought a new camper so I would like to keep one in there as well. The screens on the ace250, and the f2 aren't the happiest being stored in vehicles in the mn winter (never know when someone will lose something in all that snow). So I thought I would replace them with tesoros. Found a used silver sabre umax for sale locally. Can not find much about them....what is a good price used? He says excellent condition, but I haven't seen it yet ...... ( many times someone else's definition on excellent seems to differ from my own)!

The Silver Sabre µMax and Bandido ll µMax were brought into the market in 1997. Both detectors were advertised as having High Gain/Low Noise circuitry, the Silver Sabre µMax had all the controls of the Bandido ll µMax except the 3½ turn ground balance and more control of the all-metal mode. The Silver Sabre µMax was just a simplified Bandido ll µMax. Both great detectors and highly sought after in the used market, if the Silver Sabre µMax is truly in excellent condition, it would command a price of $175 to $200. Good luck on the deal, these great little machines do not come up for sale very often. The more featured Bandido ll µMax in excellent condition usually commands $50 to $75 more than the less featured Silver Sabre µMax.

Sweet. Got the silver sabre for $150. Original box, manual, receipt, and not a mark on the coil. The guy had a breathing issue and wanted to get out and about. He bought the detector and used it twice. He apparently had trouble bending down to dig. Put in in a box in the closet and passed a couple years later. Wife was cleaning and found it, couldn't figure out how to use it and finally sold it. Works great! Took it straight to a tot lot, but the mosquitoes had beat me there and would rather eat me than share, so I left. Will try again soon though..... Is there a huge difference between these silver sabre umax and the other umax ( golden and silver)?

Yeah, big difference between the Silver Sabre µMax and Silver µMax. The Silver Sabre µMax has the threshold all-metal mode, it is a nice thing to have to help size up a target and to check the ground balance with. You did well on your purchase, enjoy it.. learn it well and you will find some neat treasures.

Except for single tone, no wondrous difference with the golden. Due to the all metal threshold control, it's a superior machine to the Silver IMHO. In fact, I like the SSumax so well that I have several so that my wife can use one, as well. Only down side in my opinion is the preset internal ground balance if you detect in seriously mineralized ground often. If that hasn't been an issue with the f2 or the ace where you generally detect, you shouldn't have any problem. I usually set my discrimination by swinging over a nickel turning the knob up until the nickel crackles out, then turn it back until the nickel hit is solid. That takes care of most small iron etc. and still responds to gold jewelry and tabs unfortunately, but that's the down side on jewelry hunting. Be sure to set the threshold to a slightly audible hum while holding down the pinpoint button. According to the manual, doing that enhances the discrimination mode. Get out, swing it, and listen for the slight nuances in the single tone. After a few hours you'll be one with the machine.
