Silver Sabre uMax verses Silver uMax - Thoughts ?

Hi All
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
I am curious which Silver Sabre metal detecter the Tesoro community favors and why?

I have both and definitely prefer the Silver Sabre uMax over the Silver uMax. I like the push button pinpoint. I like the no-motion pinpoint. I like having a threshold and I like being able to adjust the threshold. Might be a little more depth with the Sabre since pinpointing puts it into all metal mode with adjustable threshold (supertune ability). The all metal on the Silver is still silent search which might give up a little depth. They both weigh about the same. Battery life is about the same. Both get great depth with 12x10 coil. I would recommend either one to a novice as a first machine, or to an expert as a back-up machine that might surprise you.

I have 2 SSumax and 1 Conquistador - very similar but has an all metal mode switch rather than pinpoint and a frequency switch. I agree with Diggler on the pluses over the Silver. All of these machines have pretty much the same depth with same coils etc, as would the Silver so no great preference that way. I replaced the pinpoint button on one SSumax with a toggle switch so I could stay in all metal when desired or switch it momentarily for pinpointing .

The only thing I like better is the self-activated battery check and motion all-metal on the Silver umax.

The Sabre has the self activated battery check. When you tun it on, the longer the tone the stronger the battery. Why do you prefer the silent search all-metal of the Silver?

I consider that battery check automatic. I don't like to wake up the neighborhood dogs with it.:) Not to mention to just hearing it. In motion a/m mode, you don't have to hold down the button and there is no sound until you hit a target and the threshold will automatically be the same as the disc. so there's more accurate signal comparison between modes. PLUS, the soft signal of the umax. Now don't get me wrong-I had the plus before I got the umax and it was wonderful. I would still have it but there was a problem with the machine and it was sent to Tesoro 4 times and never corrected. I was offered my money back by the wonderful dealer, but after looking at the Silver umax, I told him I'd trade even. Being the nice family they were, I got headphones, carrying bag and a $25 refund offer from them. I refused the money.

Both are capable machines and the Silver is a great bang for the buck IMHO.

the current Silver

Good thought on the sizing and shaping, Monte. I have somewhat learned to do that with the Umax-the amplitude of the signal in the a/m mode generally gives me an idea of size, depth, and composition.:)

this is slightly off the topic but hope someone here can help me. I saw an ad for a silver sabre two, what can you tell about this machine? is it a good bang for the buck? what is it recommended for? is it low end in the tesoro line or just an older model? is it currently being manufactured or is a discontinued model? thanks. Ed in co.

a very capable detector. It was the first "turn-on-and-go" model to feature the ED-120 discrimination circuitry, has a toggle to select either the silent-search Discriminate mode or a Threshold-based conventional All Metal mode. There is a small knob that protrudes from the rear of the control housing that its in the Threshold trimmer on the circuit board and allows the user to adjust for a "proper" Threshold audio in All Metal.

The standard coil was an 8" brown-colored, open-center design, and the Silver Sabre II operates with two 9-Volt batteries. Actually, like the Bandido and Bandido II big brothers, you can actually use just a single 9-V battery in a pinch with reduced battery life for full performance.

Like most Tesoro's it is "recommended for" general coin and small artifact and jewelry hunting. If the price isn't outlandish and it is in good physical and working condition, give it a shot!

I dont know about the community, but between the Silver or Silver Sabre uMax, the choice is easy - I'll take the Saber model.

I find it to be a little hotter and the pinpoint button is a boon. If you can find a decent SSuMax at a decent price, run, do not walk to get it.

Yes,

I had the Silver Sabre Umax in the early nineties, and is a HOT little unit! However, I also had a CZ5 at the time, and got rid of the Silver Sabre Umax..BIG MISTAKE! I later found out the CZ5 likes nails, and is a bit on the heavy side,(especially when its 90 plus degrees outside!)

THANK GOD just today I was able to locate and buy another Silver Sabre Umax from Jeff B. from Tenn.!!

And now that I read on Findmall the Silver Sabre Umax w/10x12" coil is a DEPTH MONSTER,
this little Silver Sabre Umax aint going NOWHERE!!!

Now all I have to do is immitate Barber Bill and replace the red pinpoint button with a steel toggle switch,(for easier hunting)????

Dave F. from Clairton,Pa.

PS I've written Tesoro about why the newer Silver Umax doesn't have the TRUE ALL METAL PINPOINT, but no response? Also, why they discontinued the Shadow X2,(Silver Sabre Umax with coincheck), and ESPECIALLY the Super 7" coil is beyond me??? SOMEONE PLEASE START MANUFACTURING THE SHADOW X2,W/ SUPER 7" COIL AGAIN,PLEEAASSEEE????????????!!!!

Hi folks, im very confused. I have posted a picture of a tesor silver sabre umax for you experts, can someone tell me if this exact unit runs ED-120 or ED-180 discrim please?
