Hi Andy,

I got a SS uMax with the red button also. It is a sweet machine.

I got mine used on Ebay. I probably payed too much for it, but they are hard to come by and I didn't want to wait for for the next one to come along.

I can't explain what makes the thing tick but they came up with a real keeper when they made the SS uMax.

When you get used to your Silver I would like to hear a comparison with the Ace 250. The 250 gets rave reviews.

Best of luck with the Silver,

I've told this story before on this forum but here it goes again.

The first time I used my Silver Sabre uMax I went to the most hunted park in the state of Arkansas. I had hunted this same spot with a Bounty Hunter QD II, a Garrett GTAx 500, and a Tesoro Cibola.

The first good signal I got was this little bell. It was 18" deep.

I found this bell where a carnival ride was many years ago. The ride is a one of a kind mary-go-round. It was restored at a tremendous cost. and it still works. It is now at the Little Rock Zoo. The horses are considered works of art and are priceless.

This bell is identical to the bells on two of the horses on that ride.

I proceeded to recover nickles in that same spot deeper than I had ever recovered them before.

Needless I was impressed with my Silver.

And so was Pookie:)

Happy New Year,

I'm sure you'll enjoy the SSumax. For a beep and dig machine (no tid) they're hard to beat. I have 2 of them, one modified with a toggle switch so I can leave it in all metal mode without holding the red button in. The wife and I have found them to be a near perfect machine for competition hunts as well as very good general all around detectors. There is a complete range of coils by Tesoro that will fit as well.

My Silver Sabre uMax picks up nickles deeper than any machine I've used.

I don't know why I didn't get that brass bell with the Cibola.

The Cibola is the deepest detector I've used on most everything els. In my test garden the Cibola would go deeper than the Silver on quarters and a little deeper on dimes but not nickles. They both respond to three gold items I have buried at 4" deep.

My Euro Sabre will go really deep on larger targets with the 12X10 concentric coil. But has less depth with the 7" concentric coil than the Cobola with the 5.75" concentric. I never tried a larger coil on the Cibola.

The Euro Sabre with the 12X10 will pick up coins at about the same depth as the Cibola with the 9X8 stock coil.

Those are the comparisons I feel comfortable in making.

In my opinion every Tesoro I've used except the Compadre has very good depth. The Compadre does ok but it's not like other Tesoroes I've used as far as depth is concerned.

Can't believe I've been awake sense last year.

Happy 2008,

Andy:

Question.....Had you hunted the yard with the 250 prior???
