SILVER OR NAILS????

My friend got a new Explorer and we were out yesterday at a YMCA Camp. I have been helping him with screen crosshair placement and sounds. He called me over to check a possible silver target. I scanned and my machine showed the crosshair at the top, The sound was squeeky like iron and the digital read a solid 31. His crosshair was the same but he said the sound was good and his digital read 28. He dug the Rosie dime at 8 inches. I have been passing the 31 signals and wonder how much silver I have walked away from. What am I doing wrong???

what were his settings as compared to yours? sounds like the dime was in with some iron.. and in iron you should really go by tones and also the repeatability if the signal.. maybe your sens was higher thus reading more of the iron? check variabilty also to see where his was set and yours

I agree with Jim about the tone being the most important. Where on top was the cursor--middle, to the right, or stuck into the right corner?
Also, did the cursor dance between 2 or 3 spots? I call it the 'silver dance.' Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Does anyone else find this very reliable?

I was on fast and he was on deep with other settings the same. My sound had the extra squeek but his sounded solid. Mine was 31 and his 28 on the digit is what bothers me most as I was counting on the 31 being a nail.

The cursor was nailed to the upper right hand corner where I always dig nails. I wonder if something is wrong with my Explorer.

I'd say try it side by side with exactly the same setting. The difference between deep and fast can make coins sound and register different also the angle of approch can really change the sound. Some times you'll hear something and come at it from a different angle and hear nothing. I don't think I have ever dug a nail but I know I have passed over lots of good targets. I am constantly hearing myself say "wow I wouldn't have thought that was good" or "Darn I could have sworn that was a quarter"

I gont think I have ever seen a nail in the extreme upper right.. although hot rocks read there.. maybe your hearing hot rocks and there just happens to be a nail in the hole.. another thing you can try is switching to ferrous audio when you get those signals to see if you get high tones.. if your detector is reading nails in upper right I think somethings wrong

I WILL TRY TO SWITCH BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN FERRIS AND CONDUCTIVE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS, BUT I THINK SOMETHING IS WRONG BECAUSE MY FRIENDS XS READS SILVER WHEN MY XS READS NAIL,31
