Well, before going out in the yard this evening to swing my recently aquired Ace 250 for a while, I told my
wife I wouldn't be back until I struck silver. The property was settled in 1853 prior to the War of
Northern Agression, (lol), but my best finds had been a few silver rosies and a long lost class ring I was
able to return after being lost for 37 years.
Well, I didn't have a lot of time to dig before dark and I decided to try a narrow strip of woods along one of
the property boarders that had several large oak trees. I found a couple of wheat pennies right away and
figured my silver dime was getting close. Then my targets turned into nails and pull tabs. I dug
every signal right up until near dark with no silver. Danged! Then my Ace gave a nice bell tone and the
read out said dime. I pinpointed it and it seems it was a "long" dime. LOL. I dug it and even in the
near darkness, that small sterling silver spoon shown like treasure. When I went in the house, my wife
said she figured she was going to have to serve me dinner outside while I detected. LOL. Anyway, the
spoon is solid sterling silver, made between 1873 and 1920 based on info from the internet. The monogram on
it is the initial of the previous owner of our house which he built. Prior to that, his grandfather owned the
property until his home burned down. I'll check to see if any of the family inherited the silver and might be
a spoon short. LOL. Warm regards, Jim
