Silver Navajo Brecelet w/ F75

CODYB-156

New member
Hi folks, Went to hunt a private property last week. Decided I would start with the sidewalk strip that runs beside the house. Got the F75 LTD out of the truck, turned it on GBed it, took two swings and got a steady quarter signal. Thought to myself, man that was quick. Dug down 4" and you can imagine my surprise when this chunk of silver poped out of the hole. Have determined it is Navajo made. Does test positive for silver. 32.6 Grams as is. No silver stamp. (being made on a reservation does not need to adhere to regulations) No hallmark, so can not determine the maker. Stones appear to be pretty faded. So probably been in the ground for some time. Was pretty bent up. I took it to a jeweler yesterday and he strightened it for me for no charge. Oh, also found a 56-D Rosie and a 44 Wheat. Thanks for looking and HH

Wow!! Thats a great find!!!!!

Oh yeah!!!! A definite excellent find there:) Great job on restoring it. Does it have a hallmark stamped on it of who made it. Some native american artists pieces command good prices.

Very nice piece of silver. At least I suspect it is silver from the way it looks. About the right reading, too. WTG! HH jim tn

Duuhhhh....I re-read the post. There is no hallmark.
In my experience and collecting, native american jewelry from the 1960's back did not generally have artisian hallmarks or silver purity hallmarks. It wasn't considered necessary. All of my older pieces that I know are pre-1950's have no hallmarks. Looking at the stampings though my guess is 1970's vintage.

outstanding find!..yes! anything native american
does not legally need to be stamped. as noted, shows as silver without surface corrosion
and has a nice natural "patina"

(h.h.!)

Yep, heres a picture I took when I tested it. Positive for silver. I knew it was when I dug it. Silver has such a feel to it, know what I mean?

Love it! A great first target sure makes for some heavy concentration for the rest of the day!

Ain't that the truth, mud.

Most older navajo jewelry was made from coin silver. They would melt the coins down and use for making jewelry. Hope this helps. Very nice find.
