A little worn but I'll take it!:detecting:

Came out of the soil at the side of a stream exactly like that,just wiped the dirt off with my thumb,'K' mintmark, Bordeaux (from memory)
 
Us Americans or at least me have no idea what it is exactly. I tried to google but came up with gold. Looks to be the size of one of our quarters. Do you know the silver content of it? Thanks for posting. Wonderful old coin.

Sorry bud,I'm so used to French coinage that I presume everybody else knows at least the commoner/more recent ones; :blush:

Anyway it's a 1 French franc of Napoleon III,dated 1867,the mintmark is found at the back of the neck below the bust,silver content is 83,5%,there are literally hundreds of different french coins! :stars:
