Silver Madness?

Not meaning to be heretical here.... with "most" of the pre-65 silver mined years ago.... and given the price of gold these days.... would I be amiss to focus on the yellow mellow? I doubt the silver clad would add up to much compared to a few pieces of the more valuable yellow or white gold that would return some serious green. Now don't misunderstand me, I will take every coin I can find.... and will rejoice in any silver coins found.... but it seems to me the percentages these days are with the AU79?

Waiting upon the flames.....:hot:

I know what mean. I'm tickled to death to find a couple of mercury dimes in a day's hunt, but they're only worth a couple of bucks each. A good coin shooter can find double that in clad in one day easily. How many silver dimes would you have to find to equal just one $200 dollar gold ring? A whole bunch. I average finding a gold ring about every 3 months or so. To match that value, I'd have find around 100 silver dimes in the same time period.

Point taken - However I've seen several posts over the years where some pretty successful clad hunters have used the clad to purchase collectible silver coins for their collections. Just another suggestion if you're finding plenty of clad.

I take a dual aproach. I hunt for silver on the land and gold in the water. Why? Guys like Tabman are experts at finding gold rings on land, but to get them they are persistant and dig lots of trash. I mean lots of trash, but they find them. Look at deliveryboys post, he is another land gold ring magnet. Most of the places I hunt, I fear if I dig them up that much I will get the boot, so I setup to cherry pick for silver and take all the clad that comes with that. In the water if it beeps I scoop. It is much easier to find gold on the beach or in the water in my opinion. That being said, I am on a pretty good dry streak!

Excellent point from the O.P. While I am aware that gold is higher value, I don't focus on it. I have degenerative arthritis in my three lower vertebra which locks me up after 2-3 hours detecting. I have had times of intense, very intense debilitating pain. So I am almost forced to be a cherry picker. I usually don't bother with most low and mid range signals, unless the site is really old. So I get few gold rings. I pick up many more silver rings than gold because of the cherry picking, which I am almost forced to do most days. I also get a kick out of the older coin designs. I am as happy as a pig in poop with one 1920's-30's copper or dime, than a pocket full of clad.
