Hi All!!!!

Had a bit of spare time this arvo so Whadda and I headed up to our local Showgrounds (as has become the daily ritual) for a bit of detecting to unwind for the day. We have been hunting various areas since we started detecting, with varying degrees of success, and have had a great time learning, while finding plenty of clad, not to mention our fair share of can-slaw, and our fair share of ringpulls. I have been lagging behind in the treasure department, as I am still learning, and also have very poor retrieval skills  Up until today I had only ever found decimal coinage (post 1966), but was not complaining because any coin is a good coin in my books.

Today we decided to cover a small area with lots of seats, which has been too hard to dig up until our rain earlier this week, so we though we would have a go and try our luck. Things started off very slowly with the usual - can slaw, and plenty of ringpulls mixed with the odd nail and some wire for good measure. We were on the verge of giving up on the patch for the day when I dug what I thought to be a $2.00, but instead found my first pre-decimal silver coin - a 1955 Sixpence. It is fairly worn, and is not a big flashy coin, but it was so exciting, and has made all of the endless digging suddenly seem worthwhile. I can wait for tomorrow arvo now, to get out there and see what else is waiting to be found!:jump:

Silver is the vindication for all of this, thats for sure. Very nice.

Whats an "arvo"?

Congratulations on the six pence! They sure do leave a sweet taste in the mouth. We're lucky here in Oz. we can pull silver and gold coins out on the same notch.

Totally awesome!:clapping:Congrats on the silver!:cheers:May you find many, many more.:detecting:That Ace 250 is a coin magnet!:garrett:
Yeah, I was kinda wondering what arvo meant as well. Thanks for the def.:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Looks pretty flashy to me. Your second silver coin will be just as sweet.
