Silver half dollars!

TwoRivers

New member
About 12 months ago I purchased my first Explorer Se Pro detector and also purchased a used factory 8 inch coil as well.
Shortly after the purchase I decided to go to a beach area that is secluded and the farm along the river belongs to a friend of mine.
I went to an area on the beach where I saw a man detecting with a Whites detector, I asked if he had found anything, his reply was a couple of silver coins dimes & quarters. Not wanting to intrude on his area of hunting I came back a couple of days later and started hunting where he had been....well......guess what? I started digging silver half dollars right and left, everywhere I turned signals were pounding my ears. I dug about 20 half dollars in about 40 minutes before the tide came in and I had to leave. A couple of days later I invited my hunting buddy there and together we found 114 silver half dollars including the 20 or so from my previous hunt. I ended up with 74 and Andy found 40........Most of the halves were walking liberty coins and 10 or 12 were barbers. I thought some of the readers might like this particular little story.. It definitely was a nitro moment for us.. A picture of my finds are below..

PS The area was loaded with rusty nails etc....probably why the whites detector didn't find them.....the iron mask feature works on the Minelabs...

And guess what, my DFX and i would have certainly found them.
I'm not knockin the EX, i have seen it's unmaskin abilities first hand.

:usaflag:WOW...that's all I can think to say...what are the odds?...LMAO !!

Hi Jim........The white's detector the guy was using was an older model, I think I remember seeing maybe coinmaster on the unit. When I said the site was loaded with nails etc. I'm talking about pulling up multiple nails per dig with the coins and other iron junk. There were also a lot of rocks some as big or bigger than socker balls. I've never used a whites detector so I can't say much about them other than what I've read about their abilities, no doubt they have some good detectors. On the other hand I've seen first hand what the Explorers will do with the iron mask feature.

Good Hunting......................John

Hi Eddie .....and thank you for your comment on the finds (everyone else as well)......I believe that it was a glass jar filled with the coins that fell from the embankment as the yard and remnants of an old house ended up in the river from storms and erosion a long time ago. In the waters edge I found pieces of glass and a lid that were from a canning jar. A steel pole and well curbing were further out in the water as well.. That's my assumption as to how the coins got there.....It was quite a sensation finding all those at one time,

Keep going back. I bet there are still some more.

Seriously,

Ive dug the beaches when i had a DFX.... trust me those halves wouldnt still be there if id had a shot at that beach. I love my SE, but... like was said the nut behind the wheel has a lot to do with finds. Ive seen many people TAKING THEIR DETECTORS FOR A WALK and obviously didnt do well. Pretty exceptional and rare bunch of finds.... wish id been there LOL. Way to go. Better get back there soon..... not everyone using a detector is like that guy.

Wild that all you found was halfs, where are the pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters? Weird.

I did find 1 Indian during the hunt.....A couple of weeks ago I ventured out in the water with the Excal at the same location and found 8 mercs, some buffalo nickels and pennies........didn't stay long because of the tide. I'll be heading back soon..
